Worth the drive to the tasting room. There are other wineries nearby. Love the wine and the views. Can't wait to get back.
My wife and I came to this winery due to a Groupon and overall we're really glad we did. The winery is located about 15 miles south of Willcox and fortunately we had our map app since they could use a lot more signage to direct people to the winery. This is one of 3 tasting rooms that is actually located in the area where the vineyards and wineries are located as opposed to several of the wineries that just have tasting rooms in Willcox even though their vineyards and wineries are in the Kansas Settlement area.We were the only ones there and the owner was very accommodating as we tasted six different wines - 2 white and 4 red. The $20 Groupon covered our wine tasting plus any bottle of wine that cost $20 or less, which basically meant we got the wine tasting for free. We really liked all the wines we tasted. Our favorite was the Etapa, a nice bold red made mostly with Graciano grapes. But since it cost $22 we could not get it as our "free' bottle of wine. It would really be nice if we were just given $20 toward any bottle of wine we wanted to purchase. So although we're normally not big white wine drinkers we ended up taking home a bottle of the Verdelho which was excellent. This was one of our favorite wine-tasting experiences of the day considering the quality of the wines and the ability to have an extended conversation with the owner. Although it's a bit of a drive from Willcox, it was definitely worth the trip.
Zarpara is always one of my favorite places to visit while in Willcox. It's a bit of a drive, so try to do this one first or second on your route so you can practice safe driving ;) Their vineyard dog, Tilly, will meet you at your car and escort you to the front door. The staff here is laid back and chatty. The tasting room has a good, social vibe and we always find ourselves making friends with whoever else is tasting with us. They have nice little pita bread bites, (which I know aren’t supposed to be fed to Tilly, but I just can’t help it!) and although they do not have a license to sell food, they can offer pre-packaged cheeses and crackers which come in handy if you have an empty stomach. They just released Mosaico which is a really nice blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Try it! As always, we really enjoy the Origen which is a Garnacha based wine.
Of the five wineries we visited last weekend this one was our favorite by far. The owners left corporate America to open this last year and have a beautiful facility, tasting room, and most importantly delicious wines. The owners work the multi-acre vineyard and winery themselves and with help from family, friends, and volunteers during harvest. Their rescued (from the praire) lab will greet you. In AZ, Willcox has the newest wine trail but it is really good, especially Zarpara.
We came here with an online offer (tasting + glasses+ bottle of wine). I loved the tasting! The atmosphere was the best of all the tasting rooms in Willcox- everyone was social and interacting and the lady pouring was really friendly. I think they had the best wines to offer (in my opinion). I absolutely loved their Origen (but we were unable to get this as our take-home bottle...too bad, it was amazing!). We ended up with a bottle of 2011 Verdelho which was refreshing and dry. Perfect. Their vineyard dog Tilly was a big hit too :) They have a nice seating area by the vines where you can enjoy a glass of wine as well. We will definitely include this tasting room again in our next visit to Willcox.
We made the journey to Willcox after purchasing a voucher for Zarpara on Living Social. We had a fun tasting experience and good conversation with one of the owners of the vineyard. In addition to Zarpara wines, there are wines from other vineyards to taste.
