This is one of Augusta's gems. The Savannah river makes the border between Georgia and South Carolina along downtown Augusta, GA. The Riverwalk is on the Augusta side of the river, a multi-level walkway running along the river. The lower walkway is directly beside the river. The upper walkway is up on the levee to keep Augusta from flooding- to one side of the levee is the river, to the other side is the view of downtown Augusta. As you walk along either level, you can see all the mansions in North Augusta, SC on the other side of the river. The houses are beautiful and fun to look at. The Riverwalk has an amphitheater area where concerts and performances are held. This is truly the most beautiful area of Augusta, GA. Reason I didn't give it a 5 rating is that you should beware late at night- there have been some crimes late at night and I would not go here alone past dark.
Lovely clean and safe area, great photo opportunities, would recommend for a nice relaxing sunny day.
this is a wonderful place to go to clear your head or just relax. there is a play ground for little ones, a shop for a snack or drink, restrooms.... beautiful scenery..
The Riverwalk of Augusta is a beautiful are on the river front. You can walk along the shaded paths and find benches and swings along the way. Watch boats float up and down the Savannah river and look across at the magnificent homes. At night the Riverwalk has a ugly side. It is not a safe place due to crime along the dark paths. Just beware at night and enjoy during the Day.
Went there to see riverwalk and it was worth it. A little cold the day we were there but the walk was nice. Not a long walk but you could park on the street and still get a walk though the down town area all in one. Easy in an out to the interstate so can be use for as quick trip if you are just passing threw.
At one time Riverwalk was a nine place to visit, but like most places in Augusta the fad has worn off. Very little to no maintenance not a place to walk after dark only at high noon with a body guard. Maybe someday Riverwalk will receive the attention it should have. Basically nobody's paid a whole lot of attention to fixing things so tread lightly.
Love going to the market at the river walk in the summer. Great food and fresh fruit. There is a couple that sells fried fish and fried green tomatoes that is just delicious.
When the weather is right this is a beautiful place to stroll. In the spring, summer and fall the greenery and flowers are beautiful beside the river. The winter just offers a better view of the river itself. On Saturday mornings there is a wonderful market during three seasons too.
Although the Riverwalk should be a centerpiece of Augusta, it is rather disappointing. It continues to be too short for any real exercise and has some lonely sections where one would not be advised to travel after dark. It's potential, however , is incredible. Worthwhile to see once, but definitely not a "wow" experience.
What a spectacular setting. Lots of space to move around. The beautiful walk up and down the stairs. Places to eat by the water. Plenty of wildlife to see. Nice homes along the bank. Just a peaceful and quiet place for a run or a walk. Pet friendly. I loved it!!
It is hard to think of levees in Georgia. Rome and Augusta both have them to protect from river flooding. Augusta has made theirs into a social and health center. A social walk around and on top can be shared with friends, family, couples and singles. Great for photo spots. Several good restaurants and convention center is in area. Seasonal beauty year round. Water views are great. Biking and jogging trails are available to all at no charge. On hot summer days it offers an oasis for the body an soul. You donor have to go to holland for this Kodak moments. Great bonding experience for family and friends.
The view was great. Lots of things to view and visit. If you get tired, they are places to sit inside or outside.
It's a nice walk, and the river is very scenic. But we walked from one end to the other in a short time and there isn't much to do unless there is a festival going on.
Nothing else to look at in this area so take it all in….There are a lot of benches and spot to stop and reflect along the walk. Quiet and picturesque….
This is beautiful walk along and well above the Savannah River. Not many shops, but some very good restaurants are nearby.
