This mansion is open for tours between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Had a chance to tour last Saturday, and found this circa 1847 house to be full of interesting items. This felt more like a home, than being full of museum quality furnishings, and it was nice for a change of pace. There's a nice printed guide that you can read the highlights of all of the rooms. Museum room upstairs was interesting to see artifacts found during the restoration of the house, and just seeing what the house looked like prior to restoration. It's a fun and quick stop when you're in the area.
My fiance took me here on a date once and it was absolutely beautiful! There is a lot of rich history in this area! Also it's a great place to have a beautiful wedding!
The mansion is closed for remodeling but you can walk the grounds. Plaques along the way explain what you are seeing and give insight to the time period. Beautiful spot.
Dates back pre-Civil War. Still a beautiful place to visit! Rumor has it that during the Battle of Chickamauga the surgeons had a stack of human limbs piled up outside the windows from all the soldiers who became amputees because of the war. It was a little bloody there in September 1863!
Great example of the times. Artifacts depict events of the times. Haunting to think it was once a field hospital. Worth the visit.
