First things first: the bridge isn´t an immense sight, and like lot´s of people said, you can´t compare it to famous bridges like stari most in Mostar. But I loved Podgorica, and the bridge is a very nice spot in the city. Especially since Podgorica is a - objectively speaking - ugly city with lot´s of cement buildings, the valley of the river and the old bridge are a great contrast, and I loved just hanging around the bridge, putting my feet in the water and chill out. But of course I have to say, like lots of theses places on the balcans, the place is kind of dirty, so that reduces the beauty of the place. Nevertheless, I would recommend the place to chill out or just have a look!
I recommend stopping at the Ribnica Bridge when in Podgorica. The bridge which is located between the Parliament building and the ruins of an old fort is in a quiet park on the Ribinica River. Unfortunately, it is being neglected by the city - between the graffiti and the inordinate amount of trash, including for some reason, clothing, it looks bad. You can still get good pictures. I recommend you walk around until you find an angle where you can avoid the trash and graffiti. If you do not walk in from the upper park across the street from the front of the parliament building, you might have trouble finding it, (there is a sign on the main road pointing in the direction, but once you get into the old street network, it is easy to get lost and they have not placed any other signs for tourists). It is well worth it to stop at the park, which while is a make-out haven, is completely safe for tourists.
There's really not a whole lot to see in Podgorica. The little stone Ribnica Bridge could be considered an exception. However, there's very little local information available about the bridge or its history.I couldn't find any information signs either near the bridge or anywhere along the adjacent stone walkways. The Podgorica Tourist Association (PTA) wasn't very helpful either. (The PTA was more interested in promoting its Millenium Bridge, in which I had no interest at all.)The Internet tells me that the bridge is the oldest bridge in Podgorica, that it was originally built during Roman times, and that it later was reconstructed by the Ottomans. The Ribnica Bridge itself is quite pretty, and the pathways around the bridge are also quite pretty.Unfortunately, the Ribnica River is choked with huge amounts of trash. It was extremely difficult to get photographs WITHOUT the trash being a distractor. The Ribnica flows into the Moraca a few metres beyond the bridge itself. The area itself is quite picturesque, if one can only ignore all the garbage. Certainly worth a visit.
First let me say I am rating this bridge on its own merit. I am not rating it compared to Mostar's Stari Most or Prague's Karlov Most. They are different bridges in totally different cities. When you visit Podgorica, take the time to find this bridge. It's true there are few traditional "tourist sites" in Podgorica as most of the museums are in the old city of Cetinje. What you'll find is a lovely old stone bridge offering you beautiful views of the new Millennium abridge and a pleasant place to enjoy the sound of the water.Don't disparage Podgorica for what it isn't. Enjoy it for what it does have to offer!
This bridge is located where the river Ribinica meets the main river Morača. Sadly, due to intense allied bombing of Podgorica (Titograd) during WW2, hardly any of the old Ottoman city remains. This bridge and the stand alone clock tower in the centre of the city are about it. There's a ruined fort next door to this bridge, but nothing to see there. I chanced upon the clock tower first, then this through one of the many delightful little parks / green spaces that modern Podgorica has incorporated. Never seen so many green areas and bench seats literally everywhere. An oasis to linger for a while if you start to tire of grey, slabby, near brutalist housing blocks that are Podgorica's legacy of the old Yugoslavian days.
It´s quite an interesting very old bridge located in a rather hidden area, however there is nothing around, the place looks gloomy, there is no place to relax. Maybe later, after some near construction works have finished it would be more pleasant. The river is nice, as well as the bridge, but something is missing.
This may not be the most beautiful bridge ever. And yes, it is small but as I read about the history it was important and has significance. The area is nice for walking and returning to some previous time. Check it.
This bridge is of no perticular interest but nice place to walkCity itself is small and easy to walk around Some nice bars and restaurants in centre Cheap hotelsOk for a day or two Coast is nicer
I found it awful- only 1 mark is appropriate. Louds of trash under the bridge, spoiled security fence over the bridge. No interesting view. It was just a waist of time.
Not the greatest bridge in the city but it still affords nice views of the river. This is a good place to take pictures of Millennium Bridge.
This bridge area is pleasant on a warm day to go and have a coffee, watch people fish and sun themselves. A relaxing place to rest.
The bridge is below the city center and hidden and cool to find and a different world in the mist of the city center. You walk down some stairs and they wooden areas and the bridge is revealed to you, a part of discovering Podgorica's medieval past.
The most beautiful place in Podgorica! In the centre of Podgorica, where river Ribnica falls into river Moraca, there is cultural-historical place. Next to the old turkish Ribnica bridge and fortress of Dinasty Nemanjica, which are several centuries old, there is a terrace of beach bar Skaline(Steps) from which you have a wonderful view! Here you can enjoy your morning coffee in nature, swimming in the river all day and excellent evening entertainment...
