Been to the murder mystery and fish and chip express both are amazing and the volunteer staff are amazing they work so hard during the two nights to serve and are always happy to help you...
Fantastic day! Great acts put on my all and my son absolutely loved it! Would defiantly have another visit!
What a huge disappointment. So much renovation work needed to bring this attraction up to any acceptable standard. Such a pity - it's a lovely idea, but grubby, worn out and unattractive. The brochures oversell this attraction in a huge way - many people had travelled long distances to be here, and I was simply embarrassed, as a local, to be a part of it. Not only that, but unfortunately the volunteer staff simply don't all know what's going on - we were given conflicting directions resulting in a missed opportunity to take the shuttle bus to House of Dun, and were left sitting on a dilapidated platform with a 2 year old for an hour with nothing to do but wait for our return ride to Brechin. Poor show indeed. At Brechin, picnic area was very limited, unkempt, and food available of poor quality. Can't recommend.
Our first trip to Brechin and the Railway just completed our lovely trip. It was such a change to see families of all ages enjoy Thomas the Tank engine trip and also the station itself is beautiful and well kept. The staff are obviously proud of their locality and station and make the visitors welcome with a smile. Such a lovely day out
Four generations of the family went to the "Day out with Thomas" event at the Caledonian railway. Brilliant!, great fun for the kids and adults alike.Lots to do and well organised.. Will be back next year. Phil Joy snr
This is the second time we have been to the day out with Thomas, with a now 5 year old and a two year old this was a great family day out. Real value for money as everything is free once you arrive. The train journey is just long enough for the little ones and plenty of room on the train to enjoy the experience. We took our own picnic and apart from some wasps there was ample next to the platform to sit and eat safely. The magic show entertained the children as did the rides, colouring, face painting, film, other trains such as Percy and the brake train. We would recommend the early train as station was quieter, parking easy and everything was fresh. Later on the day it gets busy. Fantastic service from staff, volunteers and entire set up. Thanks for a magical day :)
We went to Brechin for A Day Out With Thomas today and had a wonderful time. The staff were so welcoming, helpful and took a genuine interest in my daughter. In addition to getting to go for a ride on Thomas, there was an imagination room with drawing, toys to play with, word puzzles and face painting - all included. There were two childrens fairground rides, a miniature train doing wee trips along a platform, a bouncy castle and some food stalls. The fairground rides were all included in the price too.A fantastic day out for any Thomas fan. We'll be booking to go back the next time thus us on in Brechin.
Had an absolutely fabulous night on board a Caledonian steam train with the added bonus of fish and chips from the ashvale! Superb staff and delicious food.
These old trains run from Brechin to Dun station at weekends. It was a step back in time and very enjoyable. We went on the "Frying Scotsman" which was great fun - fish and chips were delivered to the train before we left Brechin, teas & coffees were served at the very comfortable dining car at Dun then desert was served on leaving Dun for Brechin. There are toilets at both stations which are well maintained and the volunteer staff are all very nice. It realy is an outing with a difference! For more information look on www.caledonianrailway.com
Brilliant day spent taking the small people on a Thomas the Tank engine train journey then getting to go on amber tie Bus too. The volunteers do an amazing job.
Visited with daughter partner and grandsonFriendly line.Toilets only on station clean.Bridge of garden Station is 'Work in progress with more basic services.teas etc avalible at both ends of line.A classic coach connection may run between between end of line at Bridge of Dunn and House of Dunn / Montrose.Journey is a short and only one small industrial steam engine working so top and tailled the a diesel class 27?? More like travel in 1970's than age of steam. Pity could not attract more main line steam loco owners.Staff very polite and helpful. Coaches clean if a little tierd. No doubt to to lack of cash.Shop is 'Thomas' and oriented with little other stock for the more serious enthusiast. It should be noted that this line is not part of the Heritage Railway Association so there passes will not be accepted.Tickets can be booked on line at a discount but you are charged a booking fee.Worh a experience is to travel in the excently restored BR Brake Van.Next to the stam loco it is grat. well worth the extra money.Just needs a bigger shop and some bigger steam loco's. Industrial of BR
My kids loved thomas and this was the second year we've been. We were a little disappointed tht there wasnt anything different to do than th year before. The lady on th bouncy castle was very rude and ignored my children several times and let others before them even though we had been waiting. but i know this may not be due to the railway directly. The price is good value for the children but think its wrong to charge adults th same price, we can only go on thomas where as the kids get a lot of activities. Aside that its a good day out.
Had a lovely, nearly sunny Saturday with my Son (4 1/2), Daughter (8) and their Dad. Cost £5 each way each for the 15/20minute train ride on Thomas, though I got 10% off for booking early. This included all fairground rides, turns on the steam brake train, face painting, bouncy castle, play area,DVD area. Really good value for money for a family day out. The train runs between Brechin station and Bridge of Dn a few miles away. You can then get off stretch your legs for five or ten minutes and get back on the train for the return journey or choose to take the free classic bus. This calls at House of Dun, Montrose Air facility and Montrose and runs every 40 mins or so. Timetables are available from the buss driver. There is a conductor on the bus and you even get issued with an old ticket! Kids loved this. W got off hoping to spend a couple of hire at House of Dun however it was a bit damp and dreich and it just wasn't for us, so we waited for the next bus back. Food wise there is a small cafe on the platform which sells a small selection of sandwiches and hot rolls, but they didn't have much left by the time we got there and what they did have was a bit dried up. My advice, if the weathers due to be good take a picnic! There is also a small gift shop on the platform as you come in whee they were doing a roaring trade in all the Thomas items! I recommend this seasonal attraction, a must for any little Thomas fan!
We went from brechin to bridge of dunn. Our son loved seeing thomas, percy and all the other trains. He was very excited bout goin on train. Loved every minute. We got of at bridge of dunn, went to collect our buggy, staff (kids) were very rude to myself and very rough with the buggys. We planned two hrs at bridge of dunn, as as expected to have things to do, eh no found it very boring, play area was ok not great for the amount of kids that were there, the dvd show was pathetic couldnt hear or see screen. We decided not to get on bus to Montrose as didnt know what to expect. We luckly managed to get back on the train which came back 1hr later instead of waiting for our one. Got back to brechin and it was kaos, people pushing and shoving to get passed, one way systems need to be put in place. We went to have a look in shop and I was getting pushed about and got further and further to door eventually gave up, my son an husband couldnt move in the shop so he gave up and eventually came out. The fair attraction ground was terrible, uneven loose big stones, not great when u have a buggy our son tripped and fell a fewtimes. Its a day out for kids, but needs to be for adults too, which it wasnt. Our son loved it but my husband and I didnt enjoy it as much as it was too unorganised.
