The Cathedrale is open to the public and is free to enter and walk around. It is just breathtaking! The architecture is magnificent.
I have seen most cathedrals in Europe - Notre Dame in Paris, the Dom in Cologne, that in Vienna, St Paul's and many more English cathedrals, the French churches/cathedrals in Reims, Metz, Chartres, Strasbourg, Lyon (?) & even Poitiers. Of course the Sagrada Familia and others in Spain, Austria, Belgium, Italy etc. But this one is so special! They are finishing up the renovation of the outside and it is spectacular! The statues inside and outside are so well done - it is amazing! Unfortunately, the original flooring is now in a museum, but the labyrinth effect has been duplicated. WOW, I cannot say enough good about this cathedral! My husband was able to take the audio tour from the Office of Tourism to learn more, he was duly impressed. Unfortunately, the ticket office in the cathedral guided him incorrectly for tickets to go up to the top, so he wasn't able - but we'll do it the next time! Buy tickets in advance, don't wait till the time of the visit!
A monument to visit ABSOLUTELY !!Do not forget the magnificent stalls, the stained glasses and the maze on the marble floor which could lead children from hell to paradise..
A visit to the cathedral is a must when near Amiens. One of the most beautiful and picturesque of all the cathedrals.
Amazing Church, just as good as it's namesake in Paris, also lucky enough to see the light show provided one warm September evening.
This is the biggest cathedral of its kind in France, slightly bigger than the Notre Dame in Paris. It's not the bigger aspect that I liked Notre Dame; when they're that big I can't really tell anyway, but what I did notice was the lack of crowds. We had time to really enjoy it and look around without hundreds of other people also there. And this was on a Saturday. One of the most fascinating parts of the visit were the pictures we saw in the gift shop next door of the inside of the cathedral covered in sandbags to protect it during the war.
As well as being incredibly large, this cathedral contains a number of interesting commemorations of various armies that participated in the liberation of Amiens from the Germans in 1918 which are worth seeing. Best of all is the illumination of the beautiful stonework of the front face of the edifice once it is dark. (I believe this only happens in summer, and possibly at Christmas time.) The lights and music bring the statues to life, and tell a great story.
An incredible feat of ancient architecture is an understatement here.Just driving up to this Cathedral makes your jaw drop as to how it can be so big and still be standing after so many years.Highly recommend hiring a local tour guide to show you around as there is so many interesting statues, sculptures and secrets all with fascinating histories. I never knew you could build a 16 story building inside it, but now I do.Plan on spending at least an hour here as there is so much to take in. Afterwards, walk around the nearby town. There are lots of interesting streets and architecture to discover as well plus many nice restaurants to choose from.
Catedral Notre Dame d'AMIENS is twice as size in comparison with NOTRE DAME de PARIS.It has the head of JOHN the BAPTIST ,which was brought from the JERUSALEM by the templars. It is well known for his labirynts from the floor. The kings of FRANCE after of period of fasten, dressed in a very poor shirt were waiting for the ill people. The ill people were making the labirynth and at the end they were expected by the KING of France, who was taking holy water from the priests and throw on the ill people, who were cured in a miraculous way.The KING of FRANCE were the only kings, who used to have the quality of sacerdots, being able to baptize,to marry and to make the sacred mass for dead people.
Taking a train from Paris was easier than we thought. Plan to stay all day, great cafes near by and locals are so happy to see you! Short walk from train station and the cathedral will take your breath away. We truly loved Amiens .
