What a great activity while in and around the Stavanger area. A large group of us visited the museum while on a day off from our business trip. We all work in the petroleum industry and even then we all thoroughly enjoyed our time there - learning new things, seeing some real kit and looking in awe at the array of scaled models there are in the museum. It's an informative museum, accessible to all and whatever your profession, age, knowledge of the industry you'll be sure to learn something. There was lots of activities available for children too and it's a perfect stop for families looking to keep their children entertained on a rainy day! That said, we went as a group of 20-30 year old professionals and had a wonderful time (some of us were there for 4 hours!).The offshore diver's exhibit is EXCELLENT! Make sure you have time to spend there at the end! Enjoy!
This was recommended to us by the tourist board and gosh was it worth it. Just truly amazing to see how people had to drill down for oil and the safety measures that needed to be in place. I was enthralled by the whole place. They have covered so much going back to the ice age and prehistoric creatures to the present day. Such research and information well worth a visit
What inspired me to visit this place was my friends. They have studied and been working in Oil fields. For me most of the parts exhibited were latin and greek but the presentaions and description were very interesting…. The show explaining the mechanism about its working was tremendous. The details on the walls and pillars are very informative.I enjoyed my visit to this museum. Entry fee is NOK100 and the museum has free WIFI.
The museum is very nice organized and explains through pictures, film, models and original oil equipment. You will learn all you need to know about oil and the oilindustry. I am not very interested in oil at all, but felt the visit was worth my time.
Came as part of a business trip / team building event. Was a little sceptical initially. Can honestly say this place is well worth a visit, whether you work in oil and gas or not, it offers a great insight into the workings and history of this sector. Some great interactive parts to the museum and a 3d cinema show also. Well worth a visit.
Hello John M,And thank you for Your great review!I am pleased that you liked our museum - both the building and the exhibits. I am also pleased to inform you that we are working on the geology section. This will be brand new next year. Welcome back some other time!Kind regards,Siri
If you told me I would be giving 5 stars and strongly recommending a museum about the oil industry, I would have looked at you a bit funny. BUT...that is exactly what I am doing. Together with my then 17 year old daughter, we spent abut three hours wandering the various displays and doing all the hands-on interactive exhibits. It was bot completely interesting and entertaining, not two words I would have ever though to use to descibe this industry. Definitely worth a trip, especially if you have pre-teens and teens, but certainly approrpiate for adults as well.
This museum will let you learn about the off-shore oil industry without having to go off-shore. Very good inter-active displays. The museum isn't a complete cheer leader for the oil industry. It also talks about the negative impact of fossil fuels. Well worth the visit and it's a great learning experience for young and old.
I give this 5 stars because of its uniqueness. A beautiful building and the setting is great. Content diverse and will give anyone a good insight into the oil and gas industry. Well worth a visit.
Great way of spending a rainy day in Stavanger. You can spend almost the whole day here. Interesting fact of Norwegian oil history to grown ups and lot of activities to children in all age.
Great introduction to the industry and to the Norwegian oil revolution. Is a must see attraction once you're in Stavanger
