This is the only beach offered by Panarea and it's really a wonderful nature reserve. Crystal clear waters and a nice scenario will emotion everyone but the only bad thing is that it's a quite uncomfortable beach. Indeed it is not a sandy beach but full of big stone; it won't be easy to lay and relax. This is the reason why it is recommended to visit Cala Jungo by boat or rubber.
I started my walk from the center of town and was determined to find the Cala Junco ruins. So, on my own with sun lotion, hat and water in hand started with a "map" and found myself walking up, down, up down, up, up and up only to discover the map and any existing signs were useless. After walking well over an hour, I turned around and returned to town thinking I was just heading in the wrong direction. Then my cousin told me I needed to cross the beach - I never saw a beach, although I did see signs for Spiaggia Zimmari high up in the mountain and thinking there are no beaches on the mountain. I just had not gone far enough to find the road that led back down the mountain to the beach. So on another day together with family, we took a Panarea Taxi (golf cart) and headed to the Beach - Spiaggia Zimmari. Then I saw the steps that led to Cala Junco. The next day, I set out on foot again ready to take the trek. Be prepared to experience "natures original stairmaster" as you head up to the most beautiful panoramic site of the island! the actual site is just rock formation on the ground with history and discriptions. Still worth the hike (especially if you're in need of a good workout from eating all the wonderful food). Wear walking shoes, bring your energy, camera, water and sure footing.
We took a little boat out for the day and parked at Calajunco for lunch ( Panini's bought from the port ) and cold beers . A swim is always a must , just make sure you watch out for the medusa's .
Came by boat and really enjoyed this nice quite swimming spot - very beautiful. Beware, can get crowded in July/Aug
We trekked there before breakfast (took about 40 minutes leisurely walk from the port) and found the pre-historic village. Beautiful, scenic views and clear water. Stone beach. The only downside was the jelly fish in the clear waters which discouraged swimming!!!
Panarea is very beautiful and different from the other eolian islands: smaller more upmarket, lots of flowers and no cars and garbage.the walk follows the shore and the prehistoric ruins are on a promontory with nice views.Would have liked to stay longer but had to travel back to hotel in Lipari wich is more like the rest of Sicily: less idilic and garden-like
Walking to Cala Junco takes aprox 30 minutes from any tourist place of the island. As you know there are no roads on Panarea just small paths where the locals travel with small golf cars or motocicle carriers. The walk passes a sandy beach,up some stairs and finally to the wonderful Cala Junco which is a promontorium into the sea.On both sides, one can find beaches, rocky but wonderful to swim in.The plateau itself is covered with remainings of an ancient pre-roman fort.If on Panarea,a must see. From it,one can see Salina.
We were directed to Cala Junco as a snorkeling area, but the water was too rough. However, the hike was beautiful, the sea cliffs amazing, the ancient ruins very interesting.
Calla junco has police monitors who ticket boats in the area. Beware otherwise you will be fined when I was there seven years ago this was not a problem.
You can see Filicudi, Salina, Vulcano and Lipari and even glance Alicudi. Clear waters. Perfection. Take your camera!
Pristine environment, wonderfull walk to get there complimented by a magnificent cryslatin waters for a refreshing swim
La tranquillità oltre all'ambiente circostante fantastico. Posto ideale per qualche bella nuotata in tranquillità, qualche tuffo dagli scogli. Consiglio di partire attrezzati perché i sassi sotto piedi nudi possono dar fastidio!
