Between the upper and the lower part of the 'white city' you should take a nice stroll on the Piazza Liberta, the main square, the business and commercial center of the little town. The town hall, the show hall and the central market are the beating heart of the city.
Here at the piazza liberta, is where we get off the bus and our first view of ostuni, its so clean and has stunning features.
Again historical site with white buildings all around great buzz in the evening and empty during the day.
It's nice walking in Ostuni. It's a nice pittoresque city in the south of Italy.Just hanging around is great (you can visit musem, cathedral, ...). Just walking and looking around is great. There are some nice shops.
thought on the main square would not bee too good, but ate at one, which was excellent, and another day had drinks at another, which was reasonable, and they brought lots of nibbles too.
This lovely, safe piazza is ideal for families or couples in need of a little stroll in the evening. Enjoy an afternoon spritz afternoon dropping by the local information booth.
This piazza is the place to be if you just want to sit back and watch the crowds go by. We enjoyed un cafe at two different locations here. And being early spring, we're happy to have caught the sun a couple times as well.
Piazza della Liberta is the place to be if you enjoy the outdoors and watching the world go by. There are a number of bars to choose from and a handful of restaurants and for those using public transport the local bus stops just across the road. The weekends here are alive with music and people from all walks of the world, and the night go's on until the early hours at least until 4am.
There was a festival on (first weekend in September) and a number of lively events in the piazza, a filmed Mediterranean cookery event and a folk music night. Lots of people, very nice safe atmosphere. The usual mix of bars cafés, gelaterias and restaurants made it a great place any time of the day or night. I loved watching the many couples with young gorgeous babies, all enjoying a relaxing Sunday morning drink.
We were in Ostuni for the festival of St Horace so this may have accounted for the evening entertainment in the Piazza - some great operatic voices and a lovely ambience amongst the crowd. Note there are some archaeological remains exposed at one end of the square which are only explained in Italian and the smooth paving in this area and surrounding streets warrants a careful choice of footwear, (although the locals seem to manage well enough in high heels or flipflops!).
