The combination of Italian charm and truly unique Trulis :-) Just walk the streets and enjoy the genius loci of this amazing town. Finish with some lunch or dinner with the view and you have one more excellent day in your life.
The unique village of trulli houses can only be found in and around Alberobello, Alberobello being "capitale dei trulli". They are a fascinating structure almost fairy like and when seen in the village situation where there are hundreds it is awesome.
Whilst on a cruise of the Mediterranean in June 2014 we organised a tour of the Trulli houses at Alberobello and we certainly weren't disappointed. Well before our cruise I booked this tour with Tours of Puglia who were great from day of booking until the day of tour. We were met by our tour guide Powla and driver Giovanni at the port of Bari and were informed of the days program. First stop was an Olive Oil farm which was very informative and gave us new ideas for the use of olive oil. Next stop the Trulli houses which are amazing in themselves add the beautiful souvenir shops have some items of excellence in fact I bought six tea towels that have been washed over and over and still like new. If you have an awesome tour guide like Powla you will be taken to sample the local wines with a little bit of dancing and singing tossed in and you will be left with a lasting memory. The only change we would make to our tour would be to change visiting Polignano a Mare to Ostuni as we were a little disappointed with Polignano a Mare. Just a tip if you have mobility issues the streets in Alberobello are quite steep.
So wonderful to take photos here. Every corner is a bit different and every lane holds a new angel. We actually loved being here in this season. The streets are almost empty, it is quite and cool. Every place you enter, appreciate the business.
Absolutely LOVED the Trulli houses, shops and buildings in this quaint town. Such a beautiful energy to this place and amazing shapes, colours, architecture, ambience..... I would so love to come back and stay again. Walk through the Trulli shops up to the top of the hill and look over the town. Amazing story of how the Trulli came to be part of the landscape. Lovely people in the shops, just everything about this place is fabulous. Bought a great black and white poster and postcards in a shop for very reasonable prices, and they look amazing framed! We visited Alberobello on our Globus Tour and it was an absolute highlight- the Trulli are truly unique!
Alberobello was everything I had seen online and more. These amazing structures used for centuries are a testament of human ingenuity. The rocks are positioned in such a way that the roof stand on itself without the need of concrete or anything else really. I was lucky enough to enter one sort of an attic inside on the these houses and see how people lived in the past. All of ti was still there preserved down to the smallest details of daily life. There are plenty of shops who sell not just souvenirs but also pasta and wine. We took so many pictures and enjoyed walking down the little streets in the great fresh air of the countryside.Make sure to have flat shoes and be careful where you step as the stone streets are slippery.
This is a lovely place, worth having a look at the Trulli houses and walking up the streets at your pace.Don't forget to go to the top of the street where the church is and the visitor centre is to read about the history of this area.Either come here in the morning or in the late afternoon or as a stop over as you drive thru the region of Puglia. Some Trulli houses offer the opportunity to go to the top. Some are better than others!Try the locally made flavored alcohol, hazelnut etc. was excellent and worth buying from the locals!
Such a beautiful city, Trulli houses and church up the road are defiantly worth visiting. It's a nice little town but too much commercial, Trulli houses have been converted to either souvenir shops or restaurants. For the ladies, worth having a look at the wool clothing they make there, beautiful ponchos, cardigans at good prices, you can easily get a good bargain. Overall worth spending an afternoon at Alberobello
When you arrive in Alberobello , they'll think you're in pediatric fairy tale ... because trulli houses before the houses reminiscent of a fairy tale , but the real .Each has a sign on the stone roof and everything is full flovers . They were built a long time ago and now live their specific life and attracts tourists. The whole area - Puglia , where is this town are wonderful , mystical , specific and tell their stories .... Wonderful! When one goes in Puglia and Alberobello , which means " beautiful tree" ... there will always be coming back .
Alberobello and the surroundings area are the center of the unique architecture of trullos, round conical shaped structures built entirely of dry stacked limestone without mortar. Vineyards, century old olive trees and orchards cover the surrounding green hills. The local cuisine is made up of innumerable pasta dishes, fresh local ingredients, meat and fish from the nearby Adriatic Sea. Red Puglia wines, such as Pimitivo and Negroamaro, recognized as some of the top Italian wines, are produced nearby.
Super impressive place to visit. You can strall in Trullo village and lose yourself. Absolutely incredible. Very few tourists, as it's winter right now. Take some warm clothes as it is pretty windy.
