Koblenz lies at the meeting point of the Rhine & Mosel Rivers. Beautiful place. We took the Cable Car up to the Museum, a very interesting place. Going up the cable car gave us panoramic views over the rivers,we arrived to wander in the beautifully landscaped park on the fortress plateau.A multimedia tour the exciting & eventful history of one of Europe's largest fortifications over 20 stopping points. Five major exhibition venues invite you to make discoveries. A very hands-on exhibition illustrates what happens at archaeological excavation and you get to know brands from Rhineland-Palatinate & their history. Discover spectacular finds from over 1 million years of human history. If you want to experience living history, the eternal soldier or the Prussian officer in uniform will give you a very warm welcome.Enjoyed a lovely meal at the cafe up there. Well worth the visit.

Etrance free of charge as incuded in the entrance ticket of the castle. In the exhibition space in the tower "Ungenannt" reproductions of its inventory of the collection. The theme of this new presentation is exemplary displayed through different forms of the expanded area of the contemporary Federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate, its cultural history of photography and central aspects of the medium in focus. This new exhibition tells the story of the technical and economic foundations of the media, considered to be the three "pillars" of photography: craft of the photographer, the art of photography and amateur photography. It shows how photography settled as a reproducible mass medium in addition to other forms of image and typical genres: human portrait, landscape and architectural photography, journalism, advertising and photographic art. Due to conservation and security aspects only reproductions are on display..
Due to renovation works are only the archeological section (Contregarde) and the archeological gardens open to public, from 2014 onwards other departments will be reopened bit by bit. Archaeological area: eras in the footsteps of human activities on the Middle Rhine and Moselle. Techniques have been developed to ensure human survival in nature. The time-travel starts a million years ago, via stone-bronze- and iron age, Roman period, as well as many founds on display. Zeitgärten: during the reconstruction of Ehrenbreitstein three historical theme gardens from different periods were created at the right handside on the roof of the Contregarde (above the archaeological Department). The historical part of this "time-gardens" start in the transition of the roaming stone age hunters up to the sedentary farmers. The second time-garden is dedicated to Romans on the Rhine. What did they grow integrated in their diet or for their home pharmacy? Furthermore a medieval farmers garden and a self-contained garden from the 1950s (after WW II period when many people found temporary housing in the fortress it belonged to such a private dwelling).
One of the best museums we visited in Europe. This exhibit features only 20th century art and the collection was unblievable. One room devoted to Pacasso and Warhal. Many exhibits from modern European artists. This 3 story building was outstanding and you are allowed to take pictures without a flash. I highly recommend a visit if you have a couple hours to spend, located right in the center of town.
