1400, The "Deutsche Haus" with its two high facades and the so-called Wackelburg (shaky Castle, both as a half-timbered buildings erected at the city wall) is the toll House Tower Rheintor countersunk in the wall. It has three floors, a lancet arch and a square passage. 19th century the steep tower helmet with two spires and two polygonal with slate-covered roof bays were lost. As a 19th century engraving shows is the gate wall to wall inbetween two residential buildings, probably for that reason it was not destroyed in 1689. On 23 september1647 a ship docked at the Rhine banks releasing 140 Hessian soldiers who forced themselves through the gate and conquered the city for Hesse-Kassel. At the mountain side are still remains of the wall and in the bend of the city wall is the three-quarters round Eulenturm (Owls Tower) located.
