A visit to Culture House - Kulturhaus - in Oberwesel is fascinating and very much instructive. The river Rhine - Europe's largest river - has an exciting history to tell. Just walk through the museum and use the display facilities that will inform you in detail. From the ancient days boats were pulled upstream by horses and more recently last century's frozen ice cap and escapades. Many brilliant photos are on display with in depth explanation. From the first Rader Boat that radiated certain witchcraft till the modern barges that passes the Rhine up and down every day and night. Very enjoyable, even more it enriches your knowledge in relatively short span of time. Highly recommended.

As we had an apointment for a tour elswhere and the museum nearly closed we had to rush through the museum in 45 minutes, which is not enough if one wishes to see the most interesting documentaries in the small cine part. Surely we will visit this museum again a next time... The museum shows the aspects of urban history Oberwesel from origin to the present: Roman Amphora, development of the medieval city, history of Schönburg and wine market, engravings, portraits, precious relics and Church robes, retained the original shop of the Hofmann vinery, memories from Rhine period, all this over two floors. The third floor is dedicated to the Rhine shipping and salmon fisheries (models, phased situ, dokumentaires). Modern communication technology makes it also possible that visitors can watch the ships on the Rhine.
