Outside the charming town of Edenkoben is King Ludwig the First's summer palace, Schloss Villa Ludwigshöhe. Unfortunately, the day we visited in September the palace was closed, but luckily we found nearby the chairlift to the top of the hill where there is a ruin of the Rietburg Castle. If you are not afraid of heights, do not miss this ride! The views from the lift of the surrounding vineyards are breathtaking. Although we went during the day, we heard that in summer the lift is open until midnight and the hillside is lit with hundreds of Chinese lanterns. The ride is only 6.50 Euros for round-trip and 4.50 for one-way. There is also a hiking trail, so you can ride up and hike down - or vise versa. There is a cafe at the bottom of the lift and another at the top.
