We were heading to Heidelberg, this is about a 30 minute side trip to Wilhelmsfeld so we decided to make the trip. We have talked about Jose Rizal to our kids so we thought it would be good for them to this place. It was hard to find. When you're in Wilhelmsfeld, go to the school by Schulstrasse and you will find this park across from the school. Also once you enter the town, there are little white signs (it's little so we missed it) and one of the signs says Jose Rizal Park.

There are a few tributes to Rizal in Europe: there is a street in Paris, a statue in Madrid and then there is this one --hidden in a charming a little town of Wilhemsfeld just a few minutes away from Heidelberg, a park in honor of the First Filipino, the man who showed the Peninsulares that the Indio is not his inferior but his equal. We can go on debating on how significant really Doctor Jose Rizal's life and legacy is to Filipinas --but one thing is for sure. This attraction is a must-go for any Pinoy traveler to Europe. It will help you get a better grasp of who Rizal really was and what he stood for. (Let's just say he did a lot of "significant" writing here while studying to be an eye doctor.) If not for that, this place is always worth visiting. Severely underrated beauty, it's our own not-so-little secret anymore. Come over to Heidelberg and then visit this park in Wilhemsfeld. You only have yourself to blame if you don't enjoy it.
