Anavotos is like walking into an archeology site that you have full access.... The history is amazing as is the structures.. You have to walk to the top and make your way to the edge where 3,000 people jumped to their deaths vs. slaughter by the Turks in the Chios invasion ( 1821) This place stands as one of the most amazing open sites we have ever toured.. get there before they rope it off and make it a park

You must read about the history before visiting. Can be combined with Avgonimo and Nea Moni Monastery

Although we drive quite while from the center its a must see attraction.I went up with my 4 year old boy on my shoulder.Once we reached the summit we started to act like mediaval era heroes.He enjoyedbit very much.

This is not a curated site, which means that there is a sign at the outset warning you to climb at your own risk. It is a deserted mountaintop village that is slowly being restored and reinhabited. About 6 houses towards the bottom are restored, and from one, you can buy honey, preserves and dried herbs. From another you can buy art from a local artist. If you climb to the top, you see dozens of stone cubist houses in varying states of decay. I always wonder at how hard life must have been to force people up to these mountaintops where getting food and water must have been an incredible chore.

It was quite a ride getting up to Anavatos, the highest village in Chios. But well-worth it! Fantastic views on the way up as well as down. Be warned, once you get there you have to climb up into thud deserted mediaeval village. Areas are in quite a state of ruin and can, therefore, be dangerous....note....no health and safety here. Parts are propped up with scaffolding. Do wear good sturdy walking shoes.

Only saw this from a distance but stunning to look at, even from afar. I gather it's well worth going into the village but we were short of time.

It is one of the old village in Chios, but this is almost abandoned. Only a few villagers living there. It is quite impressive for me for it's location, on the peak of the hill, where you can imagine at 200 years ago how difficult people living there. The top part is like under renovation, but you can go inside. It's not suitable for young kids before the renovation is done.

Anavatos is an ideal place for walks (the village streets and Houses are made of stone and they are very picturesque!). The “ghost” Village, on top of a 450 m Hill is deserted. Most of the houses are in great condition (keeping in mind that they are dated back to 1822!). It worths visiting it for its history, breathtaking View and … do not miss to order yogurt with Sweet made rose petals to the traditional tavern, at the entrance of the Village!

Nella mio viaggio a Chios, la visita a Anavatos è sicuramente la cosa che, insieme a Pirgi mi è piaciuta di piu.Il villaggio si trova in una località interna molto suggestiva, è arroccato su un monte ed è visibile solo quando si arriva, per questo è soprannominato il paese invisibile.Anche qui si è perpetrata l'ennesima strage svolta dai turchi a carico degli abitanti dell'isola. La città dopo anni di abbandono, è in fase di recupero; è stata oggetto di numerosi documentari anche di national geographic.L'atmosfera che si respira è molto particolare, da provare assolutamente !!! Meta da non perdere!

Μοναδικό μεσαιωνικό μνημείο απαράμιλλης ομορφιάς σε τοποθεσία της οποίας η θέα κόβει την ανάσα. Κυριαρχεί η πέτρα και τα χρώματα της γης ενώ η ατμόσφαιρα ειδικότερα το βράδυ είναι πολύ μυστηριακή και σε μεταφέρει σε άλλα χρόνια.

Ειναι τοσο ομορφο, σε μεταφερει σε αλλες εποχες, παραδοσιακο, γραφικο, πανεμορφο, πρεπει ολοι να το επισκευθουν

çok etkileyici bir şekilde tek bir tepenin üzerine kurulu bir tarafı yüzlerce metre uçurum olan bizim kayaköyü andıran terkedilmiş bir köy. Gezerken dikkatli olun hiçbir güvenlik önlemi yok. tamamen kendi riskinizde geziyorsunuz. ama görülmeye değer.

Ο μεσαιωνικός οικισμός Ανάβατος είναι ένας ιστορικός τόπος της Χίου.Το χωριό αποκαλείται ο Μιστράς του Αιγαίου και αποτελεί εθνικό μνημείο όλης της Χίου. Ο οικισμός προστατεύεται ως ιστορικός τόπος και γίνονται προσπάθειες αναπαλαίωσης.Αν ενδιαφέρεστε να δείτε κάτι μεσαιωνικό, αξίζει να πάτε!

Είναι σχεδόν ακατοίκητο αλλά φροντισμένο Το συναντάς αλλά... δεν το βλέπεις αμέσως. Λίγο πριν φτάσεις όμως, και παίρνοντας την τελευταία στροφή του δρόμου, συνειδητοποιείς ότι μπροστά σου έχεις ένα χωριό τόσο απόλυτα εναρμονισμένο με το χρώμα και το σχήμα των βράχων που σε μαγεύει. Χτσμένο έτσι από την ανάγκη των ανθρώπων να προφυλαχτούν από τους εχθρούς της θάλασσας, πειρατές και κατακτητές. Περπατήστε στα δρομάκια αυτού του ορεινού χωριού, καθίστε στο μοναδικό καφενείο του και απολαύστε τη φιλοξενία και τα φαγητά της καλής γυναίκας που το θεωρεί υποχρέωσή της να σε περιποηθεί. Κατοικεί εκεί, σχεδόν ολομόναχη, από επιλογή και αυτό είναι που θαύμασα!Συντροφιά της οι γάτες της και οι περαστικοί..

Οτι αξίζει είναι η θέα του χωριού απο κάτω και μακριά. Μέσα η βόλτα δε προσφέρει τίποτα, καθώς εχουν την εικόνα παρατημένου εργοταξιου. Τα Αυγώνυμα ειναι μακραν πιο ομορφα και αξίζει να τα περπατήσει κάποιος
