An awe inspiring spectacle. The Turks have a different approach to their antiquities, being able to scramble around ancient monuments unconstrained by rules and regulations is really refreshing. The amphitheatre was the star attraction. If you stand in the central spot on the 'stage' you can talk normally and others on the top row (in my case my family having a picnic) and they could hear me perfectly. 2000+ year old acoustics at their finest. Great view over Bergama and really easy for the children to imagine how it would have been. Not very buggy friendly, but you can leave buggies at security.

The Acropolis was really interesting and very photogenic - as is the whole site. But you have to be fit to get around the whole place, on top of everything else!

Visited in March 2015. The Acropolis in Bergama is a must if you are visiting Western Turkey. During my first visit with Trafalgar we only saw the upper city. This is because the bus have to park at the top and there is no time to fully explore the site. This time we went alone and took the cable car to the top and walked down the mountain - an excellent choice as we saw a lot more. For example, we saw the (very little) remains of the altar of Zeus (now in Berlin!) the middle city, house Z, upper and lower gymnasium and much more. NB only pay 10 TL to go up with the cable car and walk down - the walk is easy! The entrance fee of 25 TL per person is well-worth the cost. A surprise was the house on the lower slopes that contained the most wonderful mosaics.

The wildflowers, the history, the views! So many amazing ancient roman sites along the Turkish coast, but this is probably my favourite. Take your time to move away from the tour buses and explore the whole site. Take some lunch and sit on the side of the hill, enjoy the view and imagine the wonder this site must have had so long ago.My tip is to get to the top by any sort of vehicular means & then spend the day slowly walking down. You wont regret it!Oh and if you have a good voice, do sing a song in the theatre please. Its amazing!

It's a very interesting and must see place in Turkey. You will be amazed by the historical architectural built during those ancient time, especially like the theatre perched on the city's highest point, which has a breath taking view! Sites include the Altar of Zeus, Temple of Athena, the library, arsenals and temple of Trajan, which reflects the history well.

Excellent place for a history lover. However, you should manage your time: the hill is steep and requires time and effort for climbing up. There is an opportunity for the lasy ones or for those short of time: you can take a cable car (approaching the hill you will see the road sign). It costs 20 TL. There are several noteworthy ruins on the hillside which you can explore while going on foot and which you are doomed to miss if you take the elevator. The area is huge and really impressive. If you have been to Greek or Roman archeological sites before, the guide is not really neccessary, you can manage it yourself. Audio guide gives you lots and lots of information and really slows you down.

The Pergamum (Bergama) archeological site is full of Bible history. It is eaily accessible by cable car. The site consists of Sanctuary of Athena, the Temple of Traianus, Royal Palaces and a large open theatre. The view is spectacular. In short, it is a "must-see" place in Turkey.

Incredible place to visit. Tons of history. Obviously important Bible history [Pergamum] and site of Temple of Zeus, now in Berlin.

Just spectacular !! I know some of its ruins is displaying in other country, but one part of this site cannot be moved and it is just spectacular. I am talking about the largest theatre in ancient history, built along the hillside and can hold up to 25,000 person. It is impressive how Romans can built this place some 2000 years ago. It is really breathe taking. The cable car ride is a plus. Really a must-see if you visit turkey.

A few days,I took a mınıbus from Izmır's Otagar to Bergama.I enjoyed the vıews from the Acropolıs very much. These ruıns are very extensıve.There ıs plenty of pertınent ınformatıon about these ruıns and ıts hıstory ın Englısh at thıs sıte.I especıally lıked the huge Theatre buılt ın the Hellenıstıc Perıod the most,as well as the North Hall.I ımproved my knowledge of Ancıent Hıstory quıte a bıt at thıs sıte.I suggest that my fellow vısıtors take the teleferık up to the Acropolıs.because ıt ıs a lengthy uphıll hıke up.

Take the tram up, but you MUST walk down. There are spectacular ruins along the walk down that must be seen, including a huge gymnasium and beautiful mosaics.

The acropolis in Bergama is located on a towering hilltop above the city and are truly spectacular. The theatre in particular is very unique with it's steep incline and view over the valley. While the ruins are on a smaller scale than Ephesus, it some ways they are much more impressive given the location on the hill top. It is unfortunate that the Temple of Zeus was taken away by German archeologists in the 19th century to the Pergamon museum in Berlin and reconstructed there.
