There is a nice view of Pest from there. It is very large and many museum scan be visited inside. It is possible to go there by funicular as well.
It's not your typical Castle, I would describe it more as a former palace come museum/gallery.It was lovely to walk around but the exhibitions that were on within the buildings did not appeal to us. There were no information boards explaining either what could be seen from that point or what events had occurred. There was what looked like a lovely water feature within the complex, but no water :( (as with much of Budapest)
As part of the free walking tour of Budapest you visit the castle area. It would be a sin to visit Budapest and not visit the castle and the surrounding area with its shops/cafes. The views from the castle across the Danube towards Pest are outstanding.
Enjoyed the leisurely walked around the buildings and take in the views. I liked the view across the Danube looking across to Pest.
Definitely take the tram up to the top of the hill for the incredible views! While you are up here walk around Castle Hill and visit the shops, galleries, an open-air bar or restaurant. The views are to die for.
It's a must. Over the river it has one of the most spetacular views to Budapest and the inside exhibition it's also a "Must".
The castle is on top of the hill and has some amazing views of the city. The castle itself is grand exteriors. The sculptures are good, but not much inside . There is a museum inside which is open on certain times. I liked the main entrance area which is massive and leads to the other parts of the hill, this walk is fun
One would usually visit the castle for the stunning view over the city, but it isn't functioning as a castle any more: there is the great Hungarian (historic) art gallery in the building. Well, if you are a foreign tourist you might not know anything about Hungarian arts. I never thought to enter there with foreigners, because I thought that it would be boring for them. Then two Italian friends of mine -one an art student from Torino University and an other one an IT professional took it as basic that we have to see the exhibition -they visited on separate occasions. Both times I could hardly drag them out of the place after hours of wandering around in the building. Hungarian artists have historically had strong bonds and connections with Italians so I guess it's easy for them to relate to everything on show there and the gallery managers really have collected the best pieces of art from the history of Hungary. Entrance fee is 1400 huf (5 Euros) for an adult. So, I would recommend the gallery for everyone coming from Europe and having some interest in arts. If you are the standard "art equals Mona Lisa" type of person and you couldn't care less for the so called "hidden treasures", then just enjoy the view! It's free and beautiful.
Another highlight in Budapest, not just for the panoramic views of the Danube river, the Parliament and Pest but also for its museums: the National Gallery and even better, the Museum of History.
Lovely castle and grounds... Worth a visit and little shops beside.. one of the things to see whilst here
Took the hop-on & hop-off bus to get to Buda Castle. Took the funicular up and was mesmerized by the breathtaking view of the city.Did not go into the gallery - but the outside view on its own was enough. Arrived just in time to see uniformed soldiers do a small ceremonial march and warmed ourselves up in the bitter cold with a hot cup of wine while enjoying the delightful view. A must-see for sure!
Took a few photos from outside and walked around the castle. It was a bit disappointing as there is just a museum inside and the grounds are nothing special either. I think it is best to take a photo from across the river on the Pest side rather than waste time walking around the actual castle.
Amazing trip up funicular railway. Castle and buildings are beautiful and the village like atmosphere is enticing. Terrific views over the city.
Except for the great view from its territory, the castle itself is a little bit of a disappointment. It looks great, and the look from it is great, but the castle itself is closed for the most part, and the museum inside is rather boring.
