The museum – situated in a prime heritage building that used to be a marketplace – has closed for reconstruction. While this location remains closed some of the exhibits moved to the museum's second outlet, at 11 Vokzalnaya Magistral. While the museum was still open it was a curious place to visit. Siberian is the history of late colonization: the resettlement of Imperial Russians into these hostile geographic conditions. The highlights of the exhibition include complete mummified mammoths (found aplenty in Siberia), local gentry memorabilia, recreations of historic interiors, and costumes of indigenous populations that once roamed these steppes and taiga. The captions and all instructions are in Russian.
You never expect to see so much of interesting things there, just because it's remote city in Siberia. But if you remember it's the biggest sientific, cultural, industrial and something else city in Siberia you have to expect it )))
Went there but didn't understand a lot as all explanations are only in Russian. There is a big variety of items on display, from old findings from the Napoleonic invasion, some local history of Novosibirsk and how people lived, to some 1st and 2nd world war arms.If it is very cold outside and you understand Russian, maybe worth a visit.
All of Novosibirsk history is shown here including old photos and artifacts. They had displays of the local native peoples with textiles, jewelry and tools. There was even a room dedicated to Russian wars and old weapons. My understanding is that the museum will soon be closed for 2 years for renovations, which are badly needed. So, hurry and visit soon.
This is a well run museum with good expositions. It will tell you about Siberia and, specifically, about the city history. The place is well run, it's located in a historic building, has many expositions about the nature and the city.It is a real eye opener to how much has happened in this region in a little over 100 years.Of course, not everyone like the local history museum genre, but if you're into it, this place is very informative, conveniently located and affordable.
Just for real fans of Siberian history. Not really interesting
Worth a visit if you are interested in the history and geography of Siberia. Interesting temporary exhibitions held regularly. The building is a historic one and deserves separate attention in itself.
good to see how people survived years ago ,the houses were similar to a ranch in the american wild west,.. a lot of which can still be sen in use on the out skirts of the city
