We stayed at Bairro da Serra a 40 min drive from Iporanga city. PROs: Walking distance to very nice caves, boiacross (floating ride) and swimming spots of the river, also 10 minute drive to the Santana Center. Caves are beautiful, diverse and rustics. We spend one day at the park and visit three caves: Ouro Grosso, Santana and Agua suja. It worth every visit, me and my family loved it is a thrilling real nature experience.CON's: the village is very simple and poor, there's no good restaurants ( even simple one) and lack of options for eating out of the dinner times, you will have to content yourself with pastel (a fried pasta stuffed with cheese or beef)Anyway it worth the visit, you may spend 2 or 3 days there and don't miss the Caverna do Diabo in your way there. It is also a great visit

Short evaluation: if you are serious about travelling, put PETAR in your list.Now, elaborating on that. PETAR is a state park created to protect an area with multiple caves and a rich fauna within a preserve of the "mata atlântica". Reaching PETAR requires some planning since there is not much of an infrastructure around the park: you will have to reach either Apiaí to the East or Iporanga to the West and drive some miles of dirt road. There are some hotels, one restaurant, a pizza parlor and a quite busy place with Brazil's favorite appetizer, the "pastel". You will not be allowed in the park unless you are with a monitor, a local guide that can be hired by small groups - most hotels will make the arrangements. Also, don't forget to bring food and water. PETAR has many restrooms in convenient places but there is no food available there.The park is quite extensive and has many centers ("núcleos"). Unless you have many days available or are an expert speleologist, you will want to go to the Santana Center, close to the Serra neighbourhood where most of the hotels are located. There are five caves that can be reached from there - each with different features, waterfalls, rivers, and natural pools.The Santana cave is the main attraction, a complex cave with beatiful formations that requires about two hours to visit. Morro Preto is impressive because of its size and has a few archeological items. Couto, where the river feeding the main waterfall cames from, is a delight to visit - I will not spoil by telling why.The other two caves require a bit of walking in a fascinating trail. Be ready to wade across the river and to climb a little bit. Cafezal, at the end of the trail, is a dry cave with some interesting features such as aragonite flowers. For me, the best part was to enter the Água Suja cave. Getting your shoes and trousers competely wet is just part of the fun, the cave provides you with unforgettable memories of beauty. The cave name may be misleading: "agua suja" means dirty water, but the water inside is crystal-clear. The reason for the name is that the cave was discovered when the river that crosses the park (the Bethary) became muddy one day - looking for the source of the mud researcher found the cave opening, where rain water forced the mud into the Bethary.I spent two days in the park, and this was just right so I could visit all the caves and still have time to enjoy the park. In addition to the park, you may enjoy some time away from the noise of daily life - cell phones will not work around the area.The park has a site, http://www.ambiente.sp.gov.br/petar, but it seems to be in Portuguese only. One comment: the famous Caverna do Diabo (devil's cave) is not part of the park. It is located 36km away - look for the twon of Eldorado for information. It is a good idea to visit both PETAR and the Caverna do Diabo in a single trip.Caverna do Diabo has walkways and illumination. The caves in PETAR are just there, with few handrails just where they are required for safety, you need to wear helmets with flashlights which are provided by the monitors.

There are plenty of small caves. The biggest and the only one lightened and comfortable to walk is caverna do diavolo. There is a river inside, one tremendos stalagnid and the guides are showing you "figures" you might see with some creativity in the stones around you. Leave Curitiba around 4 or 5 am on weekend, so you might enjoy a silent place before the big busses from SP are arriving. Afterwards head to the center of Petar to find the more advantures caves without lighting, where you might climb or walk through 1m deep water into Caverna aqua suja (strange name as water is cristal clear). Get some cloths to change yourself and enjoy the close contact to nature.

Each cave is different. Definitely worth going to 3-4 caves. We particularly liked the cave with the river walk inside of it. The forest walk to the caves is by itself very special.

O parque é fantástico e tem muitas atrações, por tanto é preciso tempo para conhecer tudo.Já fui 4 vezes e ainda não consegui conhecer tudo...a cada vez que volto fico mais encantada com o lugar. Sem dúvida um lugar exuberante!

Fui há algum tempo e só me deixou vontade de ir mais vezes.É um lugar com total contato com a natureza e um roteiro de belezas exóticas. O parque tem muitas cavernas e cada uma no seu estilo, tanto como facilidade de visitá-la quanto de beleza.A caverna da água suja é uma que tem água em um nível alto, talvez para crianças muito pequenas não seja indicado. Pois além da pouca iluminação o grau de dificuldade se aumenta com a impossibilidade de ver o chão. Mas para jovens e adultos, é uma experiência divertida e bem diferente.Fui com o auxílio de guias, e acredito que só assim para desfrutar melhor do local. E as hospedagens ficam um pouco longe do parque para quem quer passar o final de semana.Se você procura algo diferente e de aventura, acredito que o Petar é super indicado.

Cavernas, cachoeiras, vida selvagem, natureza, paz...isso é só um pouco do que significa o PETAR, vale muito a pena conhecer. A cidade de Iporanga-SP é simples, os locais também, e para mim isso torna o lugar ainda melhor, estou precisando voltar lá.

O Parque possui muitas cavernas é lindo, as crianças curtiram muito, mas está um pouco abandonado. Percebe-se que houve gastos para "melhorar", mas são equipamentos que não estão sendo usados. As cidades no entorno ainda não descobriram como essa maravilha pode melhor o turismo na região.

O Petar é sem duvida um ponto turístico imperdível para que ama aventuras na natureza, há uma infinidade muito grande de atividades que podemos realizar em suas dependências, desde visitas as muitas cavernas encontradas no parque até atividades radicais na natureza.

Paz, harmonia, reflexão, aventura. O PETAR eh tudo isso e talvez mais um pouco.Não vou me estender muito pq o pessoal já deu todas as dicas.Além das cavernas, há trilhas, cachoeiras, rios ótimos para banho. A trilha para o portal da casa de pedra eh lindíssima, e a caverna então, nem se fala. Tb a trilha para a Cachoeira das andorinhas eu recomendo. Leve lanche e agua. Cuidado com cobras. Leve perneira se tiver.Os passeios devem ser feitos com guias.Talvez seja melhor evitar os meses de muita chuva, pois os rios sobem e muitos atrativos são fechados.

Incrível, mas muita gente não conhece o Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto do Ribeira - PETAR. Com uma infinidade de cavernas (muitas ainda por descobrir!) apresenta impressionantes atrações além das formações rochosas subterrâneas. Vale muito a pena conhecer!

local simples, rodeado pela mata atlântica, cheio de cavernas e cachoeiras a serem desbravadas! Os passeios são feitos com guias, mas o preço é justo e acessível a muita gente!

Faz 10 anos que conheci o Petar. O único inconveniente é que é um lugar para quem está de carro. Não há serviço das pousadas para o complexo de cavernas.

Além de cavernas com lindas formações, grandes variedades de estilos, ainda conta com várias cachoeiras e rios com piscinas naturais. Precisa levar seu lanche para o parque, pois lá não vende nada de comer. Ficar atento/a a calçados e roupas adequadas pra não ficar desconfortável durante o passeio. Levar lanterna e capacetes são exigências e necessários.
