A small community, which can be reached after crossing dunes on the back of a truck. The beaches are really beautiful. It has a lighthouse to visit and a site to see seals.

When you are in Punta del Diablo, you must visit Cabo Polonio! Is a small fisherman/hippie village with beautiful landscapes and great beaches to hang out!

Cabo Polonio beaches are beautiful.Water was a bit strong, but perfect temperature for a swim!Make sure you watch the sunset from a beach!

Getting to Cabo is half the fun - on dump trucks across sand dunes.It's s unique part of the world, but shame the beaches are littered now with human rubbish and no one is cleaning it up!Keep this place unique and don't litter!

I and my friends were on the beach day and night! We had music to the sunset, and was up to sunrise. It was an absolutely amazing experience!

I can say with no doubts that Cabo Polonio is one of the best places in the world. The place has no big houses, luxury hotel rooms, but it is very beautiful that I have no words to describe. Also, I love the food, which generally is for vegan or vegetarian people.

The beaches in Cabo Polonio are the main attraction! The biggest colony of sea lions in the world are the permanent residents on the rocks near the light house and the beaches are excellent for sun bathing and of course easy access to the ocean for swimming, surfing or whatever activity you want to do.

Cabo Polonio is a small, little fishing village tucked away in what is now a National Park. To get there (two hours from Punta del Este), we drove to the park entrance, parked and paid the $170 URS (about $15 USD) per person to take a bumpy 15-minute ride in a passenger truck that brought us to this rustic little village.We were there in the off-season and went strictly to visit the village as it was a sight we would not see elsewhere. I have read that the beach is quite nice and I am sure this is true from what I saw. But this was definitely not the time of year to think about that as it was quite cold when we visited.This village was a conglomeration of sporadically placed simple structures (I hesitate to call them huts as I don't want to mislead), many of which are hostels, with no paved roads. It truly was a throwback in time. There were a plethora of friendly dogs, a couple horses and a few sundry other animals hanging around to make the atmosphere more authentic. One of the dogs had young pups as well which were fun to hold.The 90 or so (according to the official numbers I saw) villagers appeared to make their livelihood from fishing and tourism. With our venture in the off-season, it was not particularly busy. There were a few visitors in the village. We climbed the lighthouse (20 pesos) to get some pictures and we also got a good look at the sea lion colony on the rocks below. That was the highlight of the visit.We stopped at a place that appeared to be called Casas Rojas which was a souvenir/craft shop and coffee shop in one run by a very friendly couple. We had coffees and a couple of pastries in taking a break from the stiff, cold breeze blowing outside. We also purchased a couple of craft items from them.The bus came on a set schedule and it was two hours from the time we were dropped off until the last bus of the day came along. That was plenty of time for exploration during that time of the year.One last thing to note was that parking back at the Park Entrance where we boarded the bus was not free. The fee was $170 URS per vehicle.Overall, this was worth taking the time to see. This secluded fishing village is a sight you are unlikely to see many other places. And the sea lion colony is a sight to behold.

Cabo Polonio is a small hippy fishing village in the south coast of Uruguay. There only 70 local people living there all year round, they live on fishing and art craft. The dunes you will find in Cabo Polonio will leave a lasting impression as they are yellow and actually high!!! The Atlantic ocean washes it coast, people are the friendliest, the landscapes are outstanding!!! You can't miss it!!! Go there in December, January or February ...I almost forgot! there's no electricity or running water..it's the perfect place to unwind!

Wide sandy beaches and high dunes to do thing we used where we were kids: enjoy, jump, laugh, rollover. Extraordinary view of the Milky Way at night and noctilucas (sea sparkling) when waves broke at shore. Unforgettable.

Definitely one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen, don't miss it! I liked the "south beach" better than the one close to the lighthouse, but they're both nice. It is also worth to check the sea lions and watch the sunrise.

The south beach is probably the best beach for long walks anywhere in Uruguay. The north beach is also very nice for the dunes. Level of waves changes every day depending on weather but overall amazing and life guards present. AMAZING sunsets

Beautiful beach. Still virgin and pristine. "Hippish" kind of village. To get there, you have to drive to the main entrance (Highway 10 in Rocha), and park in the parking lot (first 50 minutes free, after that 60 Uruguayan pesos (about 3 U$S), per hour. Then, you need to buy a ticket which is about U$S6 per person. The ticket entitles you to a round trip ride to the village. You can walk (between 5 and 6 hours taking the beach route), but the "buggie" ride will take you only 30 minutes. If you are going for the day, the ride is a must. If you are going to walk, bring lots of water, it's all dunes and ocean. The village has small restaurants and homemade goods are sold on the street. This village has not running water, and just recently got electricity (but not in all places). You can buy stuff made by the locals (neckless, bracelets, etc.) or T-shirts from Brazil (very artistic designs). If you would like to take pictures, go to the beach side of the lighthouse. There, "sea wolfs" go to sunbathe. Hundreds of them. You can hear them "bark" from the buggie stop. Last buggie back to your car, 8PM. It's a great place to "unplug". Very, very unique.

This was an very good expedition we had here me and my girlfriend,we love this place so much so we have visit 2 times more and we rent an house very near to the beach also,so have not been here so shall you do it,like so much both my girlfriend and I,can recommend it.

We found out about Cabo Polonio from someone in Montevideo and we were so grateful. We decided to go for one day and we stayed for three instead, we enjoyed the silence, the beautiful beaches and the sand dunes. In the second day we went for a walk to some rocks where you can climb (6 km away) and the view is simply breathtaking! You can see Valizas, a nearby town and Cabo Polonio with the lighthouse and of course the beach and ocean. And we had some fun trying to slide down on the sand dunes :) awesome place for resting and enjoying nature, do not miss it.
