Lovely little place that allows you to see some pretty spectacular birds (the various types of Black Cockatoo are impressive ) up front. The walk itself, is easy and very tranquil with lovely gardens and with wallabies bounding around was very relaxing. Worth a stroll
Whilst it's true this place does need some value adding and perhaps the owners should consider adding a butterfly house or similar to attract more customers the property is just gorgeous to walk around and a truly unique experience. For bird lovers and people who don't crave constant action everywhere they go, this is a must! If you're lucky like most of the reviewers here the very kind and very elderly owners will be sure to introduce you to some of their absolutely beautiful birds, especially the gorgeous red tailed black cockatoos and the meowing galah, Oliver. There have been a few reviews complaining about the broken walkthrough aviary- this has now been fixed!!
simply amazing, very well run and operated by a lovely couple they have fantastic exhibits on a fantastic property. Very accommodating owners and wonderful birds. A lot of care is given to the birds and the enclosures are clean and well maintained. There is information about the birds on each enclosure so you do not need to be a bird person to et something out of it. Allow 2-3 hours to leisurely take in all there is and if possible try to avoid school holidays as birds are easily scared and if travelling with loud children you wont see much in the large walk through enclosure
This was most disappointing as the advertised walk through aviary has not operated for over 2 years. Paying $10 to see birds in cages was not the experience expected. The experience is nothing like that glorified on the web site or in brochures, no waterfalls or ponds operating, place run down. Don't waste your time or money.
This is a great attraction run by a lovely, friendly couple. The birds are beautiful and well cared for - we spent a lot of time talking to the Major Mitchell's cockatoo and 'Jesse' the black cockatoo. Jesse seemed to take a liking to my daughter which was lovely. The grounds are beautiful. Unfortunately we chose a bitterly cold, windy day to attend so didn't stay for as long as we would have liked. This also meant a lot of the birds were quiet and stayed out of the wind (fair enough!). I'm glad we visited and supported a local business. I thought the entry price was very reasonable.
If you love birds especially native parrots you will love this place, very healthy happy content birds, some talk and some want to just be with human company. If you can bring some green pine cones the black cockies will love you forever! Yes, the walk through aviary is storm damaged at present and is being repaired (with no help from Govt or Tourism) but there is still plenty to do, including getting a few 'selfies' whilst covered in Yellow and Red tailed cockatoos.
Price was pretty reasonable, was just disappointed that the flight aviary is closed (due to storm damage), and I was disappointed that we didn't get told about the closure of the flight aviary and we found it out that when we walked down there. However I had lots of fun talking and playing with the birds (through the cage), I especially loved the Major Mitchell's parrot that was meowing and talking, over all good visit just needs some TLC but I would go again. :) staff very lovely xx
I really wanted to like this place! I would have give it half a star except that the gorgeous elderly owner happened to come out when we were leaving (after only spending half an hour there!) and so we got to hold a black cockatoo and he gave us a heap of information, he was lovely! The place is drastically run down. The whole walk in aviary is in pieces and you cannot enter, there is a lot of birds in cages but that's it. The grounds and walkways are a mess, the place needs some serious maintenance and unfortunately I couldn't recommend it. For $30, I expect a little bit more!!
Bird World is located on Eddy Ave, Buninyong, which is only a short drive from Ballarat. There are over 200 hundred birds to see here and some nice waterfalls and garden surrounds.Expect to spend a few hours here and well worth a visit.
I really enjoyed this great place. You can hold a black cockatoo, such an experience. I did not realise how large they are! There is a raised boardwalk merandering through Australian forest and man made waterfalls. Very relaxing.
I went with friends and we had planned the outing. Yes there were birds but it was seriously disappointing. Older park with very old housing. Animal husbandry and animal housing has evolved but this park has not evolved and is operating with old facilities in very poor condition. Plenty of food and water and birds are well looked after. I am not saving there are welfare issues. It is a low earning park and this is reflected in housing and how it is maintained.
A little bit off the beaten track of the more well known attractions of Ballarat, this little bird world offers a glimpse of many of our wonderful Australian birds with enthusiasm. Run by a lovely couple, with no government funding, they do a pretty good job overall and maintaining this large place on their own. Other reviewers have said the price is a little steep but to be honest, I don't mind. It helps to keep the birds fed and the owners must have large overheads. What liked most about it is I could get up close and personal with the birds. We showed a genuine interest and one of the staff spent a lot of time talking to us and showing us the birds up close. We were allowed to hold one. It's rare to get such personal attention at some of the larger attractions. So for me, that won us over. We took a friend from the USA and another one from France and both were given the opportunity to hold a bird, both visited one different days.Well done to this small business enterprise. What you do it hard and costly work.
This place is in need of a makeover, badly .... Sad looking cages / aviaries make for sad surroundings for our feathered friends. There certainly was variety. Opportunities are there to get real close and personal with some of the birds, when the owner / keeper lets you in and have the birds sit on your arm ... The highlight and star of the place is a very talkative parrot! Not to be outdone there are a few other "talkers" as well!
This place needs a Reno. Looks like it might have been quite nice back in the day. Run by a nice couple but needs a lot of up keep. There were about 50 birds In various cages. The funniest was a pink cocktoo that could talk a few words. They should try to fix the aviary cos at $12/pp it's a bit steep
Was freezing and blowing a gale but the birds were wonderful and so was the gentleman who had built it from scratch he and his family have made an extremely interesting place to visit. I should imagine in the summer it is even more so.
