The cemetery is very interesting with many what appears to be randomly placed graves, but there is a story behind it all. Visit and investigate the mystery.

First time I have written about a cemetery but I have visited many due to my love of history, Dunwich cemetery is quite small with many poorly kept tombstones. However those that could be read highlighted how young people died in the 19th century. Trees provide a level of shade but not recommended in the middle of the day.

Drove past and not very well looked after! I really felt for the loved ones in there at rest that they are just left and nobody cares, well so it looked anyway.

The cemetery is worth a brief look about as it contains many historic graves and markings. It is also located on a beautiful part of the island in such peaceful surroundings. The deaths surrounding those that lived on the Quarantine Station and those that died on early ships to the young colony are moving to read about.Fir those interested in our early history it is certainly worth visiting.

North Stradbroke Island is arguably the very best island off the coast of Australia and Dunwich Cemetery is bypassed by 99.9% of tourist just off the ferry and heading for the paradisical beaches 18kms east. The cemetery which is a short walk from the ferry contains a rich tapestry of the earliest settlers on what was then a remote and inhospitable island with angry natives to the senseless young deaths of modern day residents. walking about and reading the tombstones of some unnamed or partially named persons long perished you get a feel for the hardships endured by the early settlers many thousands of miles from home and there under duress. It is not an eerie or sad cemetery but one for reflection. well worth a stop off.

We walked around while waiting for our taxi and it is interesting to see some of the old headstones and learn some history from the old station. Even saw a koala hanging out there.

Had an hour to pass before our ferry back to the main land, so took a stroll through the cemetery. An interesting way to look into the people and history of the area. I was particuarly interested in the memorial to the staff and residents of the old Stradbroke Island Asylum - the memorial is made from the bricks from the Asylum's laundry.

Well worth a quick visit, a bit of history and koalas in the same place. Look carefully though as they are hard to spot. After spotting one we found 3 more.

Frankly find it listed as one of the top attractions of Dunwich is weird, ok it is a small town but this cemetery itself is not anything that.It is located in front of the dock landing jet boating and easily visible once you have landed on the island. This small cemetery is open to the public is very quaint, clean and conveys a sense of peace and tranquility. It would be advisable to visit it if you had time available before waiting for the jet boat to return to Cliveland.

This Cemetery contains some magnificent old trees & overlooks the beautiful Bay. As you wander around the very old graves (going back to the 1840/1850's), you get to learn about the history of the settlement (quarantine station).
