The tiny town of Emmaville is west of Deepwater however it is worth the drive in if you like history and "all things mining". From the road you have no idea just how extensive this place is. There is also a reading room. The area is know for mining and there is also an old arsenic mine site near by. A good display by this small town.
What a surprise to see such a well set out Museum in such a small country town. We found the staff so helpful and friendly. The displays were well maintained - so many things to see in and outside the display rooms. At the back of these rooms are more surprises - replica and original buildings from days gone by. Tin and arsenic were mined in the late 1800's and early 1900's and the nearby Ottery Arsenic Mine is well worth a visit. Once there were over 1000 Chinese working here in the early days.
The Emmaville Mining Museum is in this small town west of Deepwater. It has lots of different kinds of minerals and information on the mining of the area. Tin and arsenic was mined amongst other minerals. There were 1200 Chinese working there in the late 1800s. There are also a number of replica buildings behind the display rooms. from that era. The staff were very informative as they have lived in the area all their lives.
