What an outstanding location - with even more outstanding wines to match. We booked for lunch on Sunday and it was fantastic. The wine tasting was terrific and the wines are fairly priced for such a highly rated winery (I think we read that it was a Haliday 5 star winery). Ended up leaving with a couple of dozen which we're still enjoying.
My family booked for Sunday lunch and we were warned that it would be the second siting. No problem we thought. We arrived early and tasted the wines on offer and took in the scenery. The outlook of the restaurant is lovely and on Sunday afternoons there is live music - a pretty good duet on the day we were there. Our table was ready early, and we put in our orders, only to have the waitress return apologetically to tell us the vegetarian main option was no longer available. For the vegetarians amongst us this meant a (lovely) salad for entrée, followed by another salad (not so lovely), knocked up for them specially. It seems that running out of food is de rigeuer for this restaurant kitchen if other reviews are to be believed. We enjoyed our afternoon, and most of the food was very pleasant. The waiting staff were nice and attentive. And the location is great. I would go again - but next time will book an early lunch!
My family arrived on a Sunday late morning and were warmly greeted by Tom whom we discovered was the Head Winemaker of his family run business. Walking us through the wine list in an unrushed and friendly manner, Tom was able to give us some good information not only of the wines we were sampling, but of the history of the winery, buildings and surrounds as well. We were encouraged to stay and make use of the beautiful lawn area giving the boys a place to run around and feel just as comfortable here as the adults. Needless to say, we stayed for lunch with a lovely bottle of wine. The menu is Asian influenced, the food beautifully presented and delicious. On Sundays, quite often there are musicians playing on the lawns and that was good enough reason to stay just a little longer. I can't think of a much nicer way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Oh, and the wines are just lovely.
It's the third time my family and I have visited Howard's and they are fantastic. Their menu has changed to a shortened A La Carte menu which suits the venue. The menu items are created in house and ingredients sourced locally. They have rebadged their latest vintages and their new wines taste awesome. I urge people who have had an average experience before to give them another go as it is well worth it. Very kid friendly with attentive and welcoming staff. Their 2014 Pinot Gris is an absolute winner and a crows pleaser. Get there!
We decided to pop into Howards on a Sunday, show some interstaters what the Adelaide Hills has to offer. We were met by a fairly rude man who told us we should've booked and there was no food left (it was 1pm). There were signs on the way to the winery advertising food and entertainment. Think they should think about those people who are going for a Sunday drive and may not know how busy they get on a Sunday. Also work on customer service.
1st try, told is was a bit late for lunch mmmm it was 1pm !!! had menu thrown at us, then told most things where not available so we left.2nd try we were seated and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited over 30mins, tried to get drinks and menus, and we are still waiting.3rd try, (against my better judgement) on arrival we were told "we are busy, find a seat, it will be a while" what will be a while ??? don't know and don't care, If i am going to pay you money i want service from friendly people, you lot just don't get it. NEVER NEVER AGAIN
We visited on a cold and wet Friday after purchasing an internet tasting platter and bottle of wine deal. The staff made us most welcome and we were invited to taste a variety of wines prior to participating in the large and beautifully presented platter of local produce. It was well complemented by the bottle of chardonnay we chose.Dining outdoors was not an option due to the weather. This was a pity as we missed the opportunity to enjoy the rural and vineyard views,While it was wood fire was pleasant and warming, a small criticism is the fact that we had no view of the outdoors from our table, there being no window nearby.Thank you to the friendly staff for helping to brighten up a miserable day weatherwise by making our visit an enjoyable one.
Went up to Howard's on a Sunday afternoon, they have changed the food slightly to more simple food which was good value! The wines were fantastic! I really enjoy the sparkling and the Cabernet franc! Have live music every Sunday! Will be back soon!
Howard's Vineyard is not on the major wine tourism routes, but it's easy to get to and is definitely worth seekng out. The cellar door, in the vineyard, is built around an old stone barn. Wines are excellent value for very good quality, and food served in the informal restaurant is very good. We live about 20 minutes away, always take visitors there and buy wine!
We went to taste wines as part of a wine tour and stayed for lunch. The food was very nice and would definitely recommend. The issue came when we went to pay and discovered that we were going to be charged for the tasting. Of all the vineyards we went to that day we never got charged for any of them. We also ate lunch and drank wines which were purchased with lunch so we thought it was unfair to pay. We also had to dispute for paying for a tasting for one of the pregnant guest who had not done a "tasting". So what started out being an enjoyable experience ended poorly. We were never advised that we would have to pay for a tasting.
Beautiful food, fun atmosphere, live music on Sunday. Highly recommended
How can they get it so wrong? It's such a beautiful setting in the Adelaide hills, with pretty good wines. Yet, the restaurant was such a let down. We went here on recommendations of friends that held a function here a year ago, but must have been different owners then, cause it was terrible! The staff had no idea what was going on, our booking was 'lost', no apologies, food was average at best, and drinks were served warm and slow. Never again.
Howard Vineyard have some great varietal Adelaide Hills wines - they told us about some of their show wins. This is a beatiful setting to just sample a few wines, have a tasty lunch or just buy a glass to sip in the shade while watchiung the kids play on the landscaped terraces. Great fun!
