It was a hellishly windy day as we made our way up the steps to the lighthouse. Panoramic vista from the top. Even though it was overcast we could see a long way north and south. Definitely would be nice to spend some time on a windless, sunny day.

The family and I came to see the races today on the beach. What a treat and such wonderfull people, all frendly and falling over themselves to help us from finding a good place to park and bcked up with tons of advice on the best places to stand to see the races. What a great day out and in such a beautifull place.Well recomended.

We rented a holiday house for a long weekend. The light house walk was interesting. Lots of fossils to marvel over and the different types of rock were intriguing. We left the main walk way and walked over the back which was interesting. Suggest you keep away from overhangs though. The first part of the lagoon was ideal for swimming and for toddler playing. The second part had waves coming in which was good for body surfing. At low tide it was possible to walk across to the reef an explore there. There is a circuit walk to Castle rock - either start by going along the beach or start at the end of the road and go through the pine trees. You can walk up the rock as an option for those not inclined to get vertigo. You can also go for a long walk north along the main beach. Nice sand everywhere. If you are staying there you should bring as much as possible as the store is limited and we were told, pricey.

This trip is really worthwhile-the beach is long and sandy and the walk to the lighthouse not too strenuous on a lovely sunny Wairarapa day. Watch the toddlers paddling in the lagoon and look at the ships all loaded onto their tractors ready to head out on the tide. Lighthouse views and tracks around it are really amazing. Good access and interesting signs telling of the history of the area. Grab an icecream at the dairy and sit on the benches looking out at the waves.

Talking to locals advised to go out to Castle point, well what a little (large) gem. Very worth the drive out to this lovely spot, used by locals for holidays. Great views, great beach, cove and lighthouse, wish we had more time to explore or even stay.

Decided to take a picnic lunch to the Wairarapa coast and chose Castlepoint beach. We parked at the beach and climbed the short hill above and sat on a rug under the shade with a view of the beach and lighthouse to our left and the lagoon and rocks in front of us.A perfect way to enjoy homemade egg mayo sandwiches !

The lighthouse is near the village of Castlepoint on the Wairarapa coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The lighthouse was built and first lit in 1913 and staffed until 1988, being one of the last manned lights built in New Zealand. It’s an easy uphill climb to the lighthouse though the day we were there it was blowing a howling gale even though it was a hot sunny day. At sea, the light can be seen 22 miles away and was used by sailors coming from South America when making for Wellington Harbour. Spectacular sight highly recommended.

Lovely place to spend time unwinding from the hustle of urban life. A good family destination. The north beach is good for surfers. The enclosed south beach is good and safe for wading and swimming even for small kids. The east breaker is good for fishing. The place is more attractive when the pohutukawas are in full bloom. During the drive, there is a good chance to meet sheep droves and smell the aroma of freshly cut hay being baled.Certainly a place I will be going back to.

Choose a good day, no wind, and climb up to the Castlepoint Lighthouse, its worth the walk up there, but I do say a no wind day please, or you could get blown over. its a lovely area Castlepoint, look for the old cemetery on the left going into the area, not far from the beach. if the Church is open on the other side, take time to view it please.. the beach is lovely for walking and paddling! I have climbed up to the lighthouse, but it was a calm day, the wind can be very fierce around this area... there is a cafe on the front for meals, snacks...Enjoy, its worth the trip out there from Masterton,.

Gorgeous place!Well maintained lighthouse with easy access to the point via a concreted path.Deliverance Cove is beautiful and the walks to the top of the rock definitely looks more taxing that it actually is. The views are phenomenal.Absolutely worth a visit

Well worth the drive in....surf beach, easy walk up to the lighthouse, safe lagoon for the kids to paddle, walk to castle rock, awesome fossils to find, stunning rocks, and all the excitement the crayboats bring. What more could anyone want...but that's not all, store/café selling hot chips etc, and a raft of lovely beach baches, with loads for hire.Shade around by the surf beach, but not a a lot by the lagoon, so worth bringing some with you.Loved it!

A beautiful and a magnificent Light House awaits you. Wonderful ocean colours orchestrate the background hues with some awesome rock formations. Since, I happened to chance upon this during a sunset, I could be soaked in its awesomeness. Once the walk to the lighthouse is over and done with.. A walk through the rocks and then onto the beach was absolutely fantastic. You could have 3-4 different views of the ocean... From different locations at this place.

Drove down from Wellington with my Parents and in-laws. It was a great road trip. And the grand finale at Castlepoint was beautiful.Fabulous beach. Fantastic views. Boat ramps are available. Mild flight of stairs to the top of the lighthouse. Can be quite windy even on a mild day. So, caps and hats must be secured well. There is a sheltered section where the sea moves in between two ridges. So it is quite calm. Kids can play in the sand and have fun in the water.Few seats around parking lot for packed lunch. Restrooms in vicinity.

Its remote, but you do have a convenience store and a café. Water is cold but who cares when you are having fun. Walk to the lighthouse and up Castle Rock, views to die for. Slide down the sand hills and walk the long beaches. Go to the race meeting if you time it right and sometimes there are helicopter rides available, I took one and have regretted it.

We stayed here one night in a self-contained camper van (which is allowed according to DOC). It was absolutely breathtaking views both in the evening and morning. There is a public toilet there too. The lighthouse has got some information over when it was built, in use etc. There is also some suggested walks/tramping. One takes you to the top of the hill towards the south of the bay from where you'll have a wonderful view too. Just look at the pictures and go there.
