If you're up at the Gondola take a walk in this pleasant little track through the forest. Take a jacket as the temperature drops quite a bit in the shade. Good views through the gaps in the trees.
Walked to the summit of Ben Lomond while in Queenstown recently. Most of the terrain is quite easy, with a more challenging climb over the last 45 minutes. Well worth the climb for the view at the top.
Take the gondola up, cross the luge track, and go up. This is a long climb over well maintained paths through the forest and above the tree line. The reward... .a most beautiful view over Queenstown, the lake, and the mountains across a 270 degree horizon. One is exposed to the elements so if there is thunder and lightening be careful. But, if the weather cooperates, there are few views like this in all of New Zealand.
The walk is rewarding ONCE you reach the top. The only downfall is the use of directions , I had to look for trees with red arrows on them to take me the correct way. Let's just say the day after you will be walking like John Wayne! Great hike otherwise!
at the beginning of the walk me and my boyfriend were saying there was no chance we were going to make it to the top!!! but eventually we did and the views were unreal! only advise id give is take suncream!!! i am now a lovely lobster colour :/ haha
Beautiful!!! Good climb, awesome hike!! Worth to go to the summit! 1400 m climb but had an amazing day!
This is a lovely walk. Good lake views. Beautiful gardens. We enjoyed watching lawn bowlers and skate boarders.
An easy walk , but very rewarding , the views are unequalled , well worth the effort , take an umbrella and warm clothes , got some great pics .
A nice walk that is challenging towards the end as it gets pretty steep before reaching the summit but the view is well worth it if you can manage it. The view from the saddle is also spectacular.
Well worth the burn once your at the summit, beautiful 360 degree views of Queenstown and beyond! If you make it to the saddle definitely worth doing the final trek to the Summit
up in the gondola then a long climb through a bit of bush then tussock - well made track and a great walk
The view in the top it's wonderful, but it's hard to go up. I think it's a tremping for experimented people, not for novice
rather challenging terrain but really amazing, we started from the bottom of gondolas and made it up eventually! watch the hot temperatures tho. take good shoes and plenty of water. We walked back down to bottom, but you can pay for a gondola ride down.
Our group took the gondola up and hiked to the saddle. Views all the way up were beautiful, with new sights appearing as we ascended. Bring a raincoat as it's windy at the top.
The walk from the gondola area was very steep, it starts under tree cover but you are quickly in direct sunlight. In January the temp was high, so dress appropriately.
