The butterfly exposition is a must. The cost for students is reduced (bring an ID if you are a student). The cost includes a visit to the insectarium as well. The entrance in through the garden (in the greenhouse) where you get to observe a variety of plants and flowers from all over the world. Then comes the butterfly exposition, where they fly free. There are also moths and cocoons. Beautiful colors. Parking is 12$ for the day.
If you hate going outside, if you hate learning about new things, than stay home and read a book.Montreal Botanical Gardens has something for everyone. Each year there is always something new and different. great for the whole family, Sure the line up's might be long, but if you are looking to view and experience Montreal than you have to go!
I think Sept-Oct is THE BEST time to visit this place. The views were unbelievable! So many different forms of art and designs. Be prepared to do a lot of walking because this place is big!Depending on what time of year you go I would expect to see a big crowd of people. However, the place is huge so you never actually feel cramped like you may at six flags.Espace pour la vie is great and has even more to offer than the garden. It's worth the money (and they offer student discounts).
So this was my second time visiting (and strange that i forgot the first time was totally forgettable). So we went again in December as my brother was reading about how spectacular this place was. We drove in and not to mention that it was completely covered with snow and icy (car was sliding around in the parking lot), but the place wasn't even open or had anything worth seeing. I might not be giving this place it's due, so perhaps i should visit in summer or spring when everything is in full bloom. In wintertime, forget about going to this place. Waste of time!
Well, it was September when we visited, however, I had hoped to see more variety and fall bloomers. The gardens were not terribly kept but they didn't look any better than my own. I must admit I was somewhat disappointed. The exhibitions of oriental gardens were impressive, but that was about it. I will visit other gardens and not this one again. It was just ok.
While the grounds are quiet this time of year the greenhouses are full of life and adventure. If at all possible visit the butterfly exhibit where you're surrounded by hundreds of butterflies of all sizes and shapes. A wonder to behold !
When walking in you get a breath of just amazing flowers and plants. There are plants here you'll never see again in your life. The staff is so knowledgeable and can answer any questions you have. It's the type of place that just makes you feel good.
The botanical gardens are beautiful, especially in the spring and summer. Sometime there is musicians playing, which is great!
In the wintertime a lovely getaway from the cold and wind. Excellent horticultural exhibits of a huge selection of plant types. The insectarium which is butterflies are free is nothing short of stunning! The only downside we experienced was that we went on a weekend and a lot of children were running free and interfering with the slower paced adults and special needs attendants. Not a huge problem but distracting.
