This small museum is well worth the stop while touring the Cabot Trail. It explains the history of the island and its people and shows everyday life through the centuries-the good times and the bad.

One of the best small museums I visited on the Cabot Trail. Enthusiastic staff. Well displayed, informative information. Take an hour to visit this interesting museum

40/50's local films of the area were a highlight. The exhibits and information were most enjoyable and informative. No dislikes. All in all a superb effort by a small community museum - well done!

This place was a nice surprise. The museum has a small, but good, exhibit of early settler life in Cape Breton. Outside there is a lovely garden to enjoy. $2/each for admission is great!

I was looking for a moose and thought they may have a moose tee shirt or something. I stopped in with my mom and they were so friendly that it was amazing!! I couldn't stay long so I didn't get to enjoy the full experience, but I will be back one day.

the 40's 50's film was fascinating! There was plenty of local history and pictures to view and good selection of books about the region. The settlers garden was well done too.

I've been to a lot of museums. This one was excellent: amazing, quality displays with short and useful information, combined with photos of the people who settled along the coast and their stories. It is perfectly displayed, perfectly lit, perfectly labelled and the people running were very friendly. It's always nice to find a little museum like this that people take pride in and where you can learn a lot about a place in a short period of time.

We go every year and find something new and exciting each time. This is an absolutely wonderful museum for children AND adults. It is small, quaint and educational. A must see!!!

Interesting exhibits showing how difficult life was in 19th century Cape Breton & how the resourceful inhabitants made tools & clothing. Also early school books. Well laid out museum & reasonable $5 family or $2 individual admission. Recommended activity on a rainy day.

We thought we'd stop in for a minute...just to see what we could find out about the area. Kendall, the attendant of the day, was very pleasant...along with a couple of locals who talked with us for quite a while. The Museum is very interesting, very well displayed (good lighting). The building is quite new & everything is very clean. We even got to meet the local artist who had a showing in the Museum at the time. (Kevin Sudeith who does Petroglyphs). We found everyone there so pleasant that we stopped a 2nd time to tell them how much we appreciated their advice about going to Meat Cave (which was not originally in our plans). The Museum building is also the local information center & there is also a very nice gift shop.

For a mere $2.00 you will see artifacts from times gone by, as well as learn about the history of the people of Cape Breton. Although everything is in one small room, it is divided into sections such as fishing, home life, school, farming, the wars and such. There is even a blacksmith and I now have a handmade nail as a memento. We were so glad we stopped!

Sounds like you had lunch in the Settlers' Garden, did you know that we have a Geocache hidden there as well? Thanks so much for dropping in, we hope that you will check in with us again if you are in the area

"I found it truly remarkable that such a small community could support such an outstanding museum" *blushes* thanks so much! I appreciate your time stopping in, and leaving such a great comment for others to see.

The photos that correspond to the large map give visitors a little perspective on what the year round living is like in the area. We would like to thank you for dropping in, and taking the time to write a comment on trip advisor.
