It's very well lit, aside from nice collections of painting and artifacts, has a nice restaurant and gorgeous view of the river
I really enjoyed the thoughtful curation and lovely artwork at the gallery. Definitely worth a visit while in town. They have traditional and more abstract work so there's something for every taste. Be sure to keep abreast of their exhibitions as they also have small-size events too.
Wonderful collections and inspiring artwork. Very nice to see such a well-balanced gallery (both canadian and international artists)
the classic impressionism collection the museum has, way better that any museum in Toronto..although it may be smaller in a smaller city. but it has a good World renounced Artist, very impressed
The Ottawa art Gallery has an amazing collection. From the 'Group of seven' to world famous painters and sculpters, this gallery has it all.The architecture of the building is amazing in itself.Allow a few hours to absorb this collection.
When we purchased the ticket we asked how long it will take to go through. We were informed 2-3 hours but did not tell us they close at 5pm, which left us 1 1/2 hours. We informed them of it and did not do anything of us. Gallery was amazing, whiched we could have seen all of it.
I was fortunate enough to be walking near the University of Ottawa and the Byward Market to come across this Ottawa Art Gallery on Daly Street by chance almost. I agree that the outside architecture and interior design will be reason enough to visit the building. Small courtyard area was worth my time to stay for longer than I other wise might have lingered at one place. There was something different about this building and its collection of art inside. Walking around the area to approach the building in the first place and admiring the architecture inside and design inside is worth your time. I am a museum person so almost any collection of art will attract me. I found that walking through the streets of Ottawa was well worth my travel time in part because the city's down town central area is not that large - much like Oslo Norway - so it is much more manageable thanToronto. On two days that I spent at the Ottawa Art Gallery I believe that there were no large crowds. I did like the paintings. Exhibits do appeal to me. I came away the first time just pleased to be able to admire the architecture. Do not confuse this gallery with the National Gallery of Canada. I do believe that this smaller gallery is older. You might come across tis gallery by accident or on purpose but either way do spend some time there. This smaller gallery will not overwhelm you with anything approaching the stupendous location of the National Gallery of Canada along the river across from the parliament. If you want a quiet place to talk about art with some experts available to guide your inspection of the collection it is well worth your time to have lunch there as well. Do bring a camera as well as your lunch money. Children or teenagers might like visiting this building too. Include a visit here with part of your walking tour of this part of the downtown city center near the University.
Beautiful looking building. I loved the hall after hall of different artworks. Really enjoyed the fact that there were a few art enthusiasts on hand to give a five minute talk about their favourite art works. I loved the internal small courtyard area. I just sat under there under the ginormas windows and soaked up some mid day sun. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Well worth the money. You need at least half a day to have a really good look around. Very pleased!
The Ottawa Art Gallery is very beautiful inside and the architecture is really something to see both inside and out. The paintings are impressive, but I am not so big on the exhibits. Walking around inside and outside is definitely worth it. If you just want to see the architecture I think they will let you in for free.
Gorgeous building from the outside, the Art Gallery was wonderful. With little to no crowds, we were able to enjoy the art at our leisure. My nine year-old daughter had a wonderful time designing her own sculpture in the courtyard. The bookstore was reasonable priced and had a large selection of books and various items.
Even if you only see the gallery from the outside you will be impressed by the glass and concrete attractive design . Louise Bourgiose Maman is in an excellent position and looks magnificent. The exhibits are well curated and my only gripe is that there was no Aboriginal art on display, which we really wanted to see. We were rather curtly told the room was being refurbished...An absolutely wonderful display of Inuit art tucked away in the basement was well worth finding. We did not have time to do the permanent collection, so cannot comment on that. Thought the bookshop a bit lacking inAboriginal and Inuit information. The current Watkins photographic exhibition is excellent.
The Ottawa Art Gallery has been beautifully built and presented. Very interesting art on board, particularly the contemporary art section. Loved the fact that there was a very tranquil place to sit upstairs after all the walking you will do here you will possibly feel the need to sit and reflect. You do not pay for the children up to the age of 12 to visit here, which as a family on a budget we appreciated. Definitely worth a visit, we loved the HUGE spider outside the front entrance, it is a fantastic piece of art!
What ever you like you will find something for you. I really enjoyed the architecture. If you walk enough long you will find a nice place to really with some sit and the place is very beautifull with the inside garden.
The massive spider sculpture and the galleries as well as the location. Saw the Van Geogh exhibit and thought there were too many people but then again i waited for the last minute.. otherwise really nice..
I recently spent time in Ottawa, Canada. Had a great stay at the Nova Hotel, very clean and the service was above parr, I combined my stay and visited the Van Goch exhibition. It was wonderful and I intend to go again before it leaves Ottawa. This exhibition covers a wonderful combination Nature/landscapes and prints, a must for any art lover/student
