Although there are not a lot of "services" per se (other than the bathrooms and changing rooms at the beach in the summer) this is an excellent place to visit. The animal farm has been delighting Sarnians for 40+ years ... take bread to feed the ducks and the ENORMOUS goldfish/carp.A great place to walk and picnic (large groups need to reserve their areas) and skating on Lake Canatara is great .. this winter especially as it has been so cold.Great views of the boats as they make their way down the river but the beach does get very crowded on weekends.
What a way to get away from the city feel by parking your vehicle and strolling along the miles of paths meandering through the Carolinian forest and panoramic views of Lake Huron
The Canatara Park is a beautiful place to get for a few hours of stroll, cycling or relaxation. Unfortunately the emerald ash borer attacked some trees which have to be removed. I hope it won't affect the beauty of the park.
This is a wonderful green space that has beach, picnic area's, entertainment stand, childrens petting zoo, bike and hiking/running trails, There is something for everyone, It has wide open green spaces also for a pick up game of soccer, soft ball etc. There are childrens play grounds there also for the little ones. It is such a serene and wonderful place to visit and many areas are protected as natural habitat so that the plant life is not disturbed. Best of all, it is free. Many events are held there and attending one can be don in conjunction with having a picnic and it is a very good spot for large groups to get together also.
Lots of parking, nice beach area, picnic area, places to walk, playground equipment, an animal farm...and its all free
First visit to Lake Huron and we walked the snow dunes on the beach. Although it was cold it was a thoroughly exhilarating experience.
Its to bad the city doesn't put a better effort to clean up the beach. Has Grand Bend potential and then some. Park is nice, animal farm is fun for the kids but the beach is a disgrace. Too bad really.
This is a great park , to go as a couple or a family . You can bring your barbq and have a nice time , play games in its open fields , and the beach is beautiful , a sweet view of the Bluewater Bridges
There is an Animal Farm for everyone. Bike hills for the BMX, or remote control cars. Beautiful trails to walk or jog on. Paved sidewalks to skate, bike walk, run or jog on. Beautiful beach. Pavilions and picnic tables for reunions. Play equipment.Very very pretty scenery.
good for young families and has a nice view of the lake. Can see the ships coming and going from the river. I agree with Rosemary, go for the fries under the bridge. All the locals do.
Canatara Park has everything - a farm, a small train, a playground, covered picnic or special occassion areas, lots of room and paths to stroll, a small lake, a beach on Lake Huron, and there are events held during the year as there is a bandshell, oh and also a small art gallery. It is walking distance to the bridge to the USA where you MUST eat french fries.
This Park is the best thing that ever happened to Sarnia,The animal farm seems to be digressing, the trees are dying and the water levels are unbelievably low.I sure hope this will improve for future generations. The trails, the wildlife, the beach, and the picnic area is sure to put a smile on any kids face.Lots of activities that take place here in the summer it's definitely a stop that you will remember.
If you've never been to Sarnia and you don't know what to see, head over to Canatara. It's a lovely park, clean and quiet. The colour of the water is AMAZING and it's what I like about Sarnia. The beach? White sand. Hard to beat.
It's always a good day at Canatara, something for everyone. The sand, sun, picnic areas, animal farm, walking paths, easy access, lots of parking. It's free!
Canatara Park is a great place for everyone when visiting the Sarnia/Lambton. The park sits on the south shore of Lake Huron just east of where Lake Huron drains into the St. Clair River. Of course it has a long sandy beach with lots of parking. Much work appears to have been done to restore and preserve the the dunes along the shore. There are walking trails and natural areas along with groomed picnic areas. The is also a children's animal farm free of charge sponsored by the Seaway Kiwanas Club and the City of Sarnia. We lived just outside the park so my kids were lucky to have this 100 acre playground minutes away from home.I highly recomend a visit for families visiting the area.
