I thoroughly enjoyed myself on the cruise. The view is quite great and I loved the music they played. Sarnia does not have many great attractions but the Duc d'Orleans is a guaranteed fun time. I have never dealt with such courteous & professional staff. Before the cruise began I even got a chance to witness how the staff reacts & handles erratic customers. A mother & i believe her son were acting very rude & absolutely could not be reasoned with by one of the employees Josh. Who i have to say handled the situation perfectly. So if you're aboard a cruise and this happens to you don't fret the staff knows how to handle it professionally. I definitely recommend the Duc d'Orleans to anybody looking for a great time.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the cruise on the Duc d'Orleans. The lunch provided was more than adequate, and efficiently served. We found the staff to be very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The commentary by the captain was informative. We had taken previous trips along the river by car, and have crossed the Bluewater Bridge on many occasions, but this was the first time we had seen the Canadian and American sides of the river from the viewpoint of the water .All in all, the value we received for what we paid was excellent, especially as we had purchased a Groupon for the trip.
I feel some negative comments were from those who maybe expected too much, this is not New York harbour or the Rhine River, but I felt it was fun and enjoyable and well worth the cost. I felt lunch to be just fine thanks, this is a small boat and expecting a hot and varied lunch is a mite picky. I felt the selection, make your own sandwich, salads, fruit, dessert, and complementary non-alcholic beverages more than adequate. The commentary was casual but informative, with personal comments by the Captain. I found the staff to be very friendly. I thought it was well organized with a minimal wait at the buffet. Beer, wine, and cocktails are available for purchase but no pressure. Having lived and driven in this area for many years, I found this cruise interesting and enjoyable to see this area from a different and unique way. I would recommend it. Hint: Although the weather was warm it can be cool on the water, bring a jacket. Also, for best viewing sit on the port side.
I was invited by some friends on a lunch cruise...so I went. It was a nice day to go, but right from the start it seemed unorganized. Once we finally got going you could not understand a word the "Captain" was saying from the mumbled static speaker. The staff were easy to spot, but did not act very fast at assisting people. The food looked like it was slopped together during the 30-40 min we waited on the dock. All cold. The view was nice...beautiful. The only way I can fathom that this vessel has a four star ranking on here is because it's likely mostly friend and family reviews. (Some are obvious)I guess I just expected more, it felt more like taking a toll ferry.
We took a party of 6 on the lunch time cruise down the St. Claire River from the Sarnia harbour area, and overall its was OK; the staff were OK, not terrifically friendly, but OK, the boat is quite nice too. The Captain did a good job of acting a tour guide talking about the different points of interest on both the Canadian & US shorelines which was an unexpected plus. The real weak spot was the food; there was a pretty limited range of stuff to pick from (all cold, even the baked beans!) and the overall impression was of a school canteen. The only think that resembled dessert was a butter tart that you had to put on your paper plate alongside all the cold salad stuff etc. I appreciate Sarnia is not (yet) centre of the entertainment universe, but it really felt like they'd just "cheaped out" and that really took the shine off an otherwise pleasant way to while away a couple of hours.Other minor niggle was, they told me to be there for 11.30 prompt, but then we all sat about for 30 minutes till it left at 12, which when you have guests and young kids to keep entertained is a wee bit of an annoyance to be frank.Once is probably enough for the grand ol' Duc.
The view from the St Clair river by boat reminds you this is a working channel. There were large barges, tugs, and Coast Guard boats among the recreational boats. The "cottages" on Stag Island tell of a different time and a different culture. This area is called chemical valley and if you take this informative cruise you will find out why. The crew was attentive and the lunch adequate and filling. It is worth the fee of $25 for adults and $15 for children.
Can't say enough good things about a trip down the St.Clair River on the Duc D'Orleans. Our cruise was wonderful, thanks to Captain Ken and his terrific crew-they truly epitomize the phrase "Welcome Aboard"! Sherry is super and makes sure everyone is well taken care of- We highly recommend joining Captain Ken for a truly enjoyable cruise along one of Ontario's hidden gems-the St. Clair River.
Having been to Sarnia a few times this was a chance to see it from a whole other angle and it didn't disappoint. Great views of both the Canadian and American side, worth the money I'd say.
Nice to see some of the mansions along the St. Clair from the river. Reasonably priced. Will probably take 2 hrs.
If you have never been to the Sarnia area, this is a great way to see the waterfront just go to the other side when passing by the plants. Great view of the American side and the islands. Well worth the money for sure.
Recently went on the Sunday afternoon cruise (no lunch) with my Mother and sister. The cruise had a lot of children on it and large families, which is fine, but, they didn't want to listen to the commentary the Duc staff provided, and talked and laughed so loudly, that you couldn't hear the loudspeaker clearly most of the time. I was disappointed, because I was interested in the history of the area. I will go again to hopefully get the full benefit of the cruise, which I am sure will be relaxing and interesting. I was told that it was unusual to have so many children on board. The crew were very pleasant and it was a nice cruise on a beautiful day.
I've experienced the afternoon cruises a few times and always enjoyed them. You can do them with or without a lunch, and can bring some snacks if doing the cruise without lunch. Either way it's a wonderful relaxing time enjoying the views along the St Clair River. Really makes you realize how lucky we are here in Sarnia to have such beautiful waterways. Some really gorgeous homes and properties along both sides of the river--fun to see how "the other half" lives.I'd recommed the Duc to anyone looking for something to do on a summer afternoon. They do fun party cruises at night too.
loads of fun with music and drink, great to be on a boat and the views of the bridge, shoreline and Stag Island only enhance it.
Going on the Duc was a lot of fun , music , dancing , sit seeing up and down the st. Clair river , Was for sure a fun time for all . You can get all friends and family together and go on the Duc and party down
Everyone on this boat is out for a great time! The band rumblefish was playing the night I went! It was good music and great dancing!Try to get a spot on the port side, that way you're close to the American side on the way down the river and close to the Canadian side on the way back up! It's fun to ogle the beautiful homes and wave at all the people along the river!!
