Best season to visit is winters or in the spring season. You and Children love to visit again. Best thing is Lion Safari.
One must visit which is located in zakhipur.Bengal tiger, due to this its quite famous.well maintained. All staffs are good in communications
This one was visited along with the family this time. As a kid myself have gone many times through the school tours.Reasonable size park to spend half a day.
I went there with my friends and it was a nice trip....Although the animals at the zoo look a bit weaker yet the birds specifically peacocks are healthier and b'ful. Enough Leopards, jaguars and white tigers to see. The location of the zoo is awesome and if you are interested in birding then go for it. We could not go for the lion safari because of raining. Food available in the canteens is horrible... Some nice natural locations for photography
I have been visiting this Zoo since my childhood and I thing if you live any where in Northern India, you MUST visit with KIDS, if you want them to see the ANIMALS AND BIRDS IN NATURE INSTEAD OF VIDEO GAME AND Discovery TV. Keep in mind that this ZOO is CLOSED ON EVERY MONDAY.This was basically a shooting reserve of the Maharaja of erstwhile Patiala State, in 1977 it was converted into a Zoo. It was designed in such a view as to utilize the natural look and floral richness of the forests. It is spread into around 550 acres of land and is the largest zoo in North India.
Also known as Chattbir Zoo, Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park needs to make this place more Inviting and Pleasant. It is a large park and it can be difficult for kids and the elderly to walk a long distance and though there are transportation facilities but these limit your experience as they follow a schedule. As of 2014, personal vehicles are not allowed which is a bit discouraging but good for the animals welfare. But having seen, better zoos in India, this one is a good picnic spot but not essentially a Good Zoo. The reason being that some animals are not as easily visible and you have to walk a lot of distance, they have plenty of space which can be used in a better way. For kids, it is the place most apt but having visited it many times, I haven't seen any major development or something unique though for visitors from other places it is more interesting. For animals, this isn't that good a place as they seem to be dull and bored and often they are just sitting in one place doing nothing. Some cages are overcrowded and some are empty, many of the animals are just single making it even more lonely for them, so I would suggest that they make proper arrangements as the existing facilities are lopsided for animals, tigers and lions seem to best taken care of.If you get bored you can go near the lake and you will get to see many birds in the open, like parakeets, shikra, babblers, an occasional mongoose etc. As with other places in Chandigarh, the lake attracts migratory birds in the winter. The best time to visit this place would be mornings as animals are most active during this time. In winters afternoons can be good as animals will come out to soak the sun but in summers afternoons can be uncomfortable, even the animals will seek shaded place and will not be visible.
This was quit ok for the short trip. I spend some 2 hrs here. One can spen good time for 2 -3 hrs. Pleasant atmosphere and nice walk through nature.
the zoo a lot of open enclosures, its impressive to see many animals like the tigers and bears in the open. Take the ferry (electric car) ride..unless u like to walk (its quite a walk). There are plenty of restaurants inside the park. The lion safari is a waste.
It good to go here once in a while, but beware of the arrangements and don't keep too many expectations. Lion Safari is complete waste, please avoid.
Also know as chhat bir zoo.....this is one of the best maintained zoo'in india. Visited zoo after a gap of 5 years was pleasantly surprised that the entry of Pvt vehicles has been banned. One can take a ride in battery operated vehicles which take approx 1 hour to cover the entire place. Or walk and cover it on your own in about 4 hours. The zoo premises were cleaner. Enclosures didn't smell like earlier times. Best part is that animals look very well fed and healthy. Kudos to staff for that. Two new enclosers reptiles and nocturnal animals have come up adding to the attraction. There are lots of species displayed to attract every individual. Now to flip sideLion safari which was the best attraction in the zoo few years back with about a dozen lions roaming in the protected area has become a big SHAM today. It seems that the facilities to run the safari have been given to the Pvt contractors who most conveniently forget to tell u that ther is only a couple of lion that too caged.public conveniences are in pathetic shape, and are at longer distances. Administration has to think of something in that regard and act fast.If you are not carrying your own food then you are in trouble. Canteens located in premises normally run out of stocks by early noon and don't look too hygienic. They also tend to overcharge on the packaged items and if confronted refund the access amounts. There are very few guards manning the enclosures......a delhi like tragedy can occur here any time.I am sure authorities will cover these shortcomings soon making it more comfortable for the visitors.
Animals are not taken care of in a good way as they are supposed too. There is much to be done for the animals..
This zoo is very well maintained and has the best assortment of animals. Animals are kept in clean places and open without any cages. Only wild cats like leopards are kept in big cages. There is white tiger, zebra, hippo, crocodiles, alligators and Elephants and various kinds of deers. There is a small area dedicated to reptiles, where snakes and lizards are kept. There are monkeys are different types of birds also. The lion safari is very good. Here the lions are kept in open and give the feel of a wildlife safari. I was impressed by the cleanliness and quality of areas dedicated to animals. Park is huge and for those travelling on foot, be prepared for the long walk. There are benches and resting stations throughout the park. One can also opt for electric cart which is for 25 rs per seat or one can hire entire cart for 500 rs. The eateries are okay and you should have breakfast first cause there are not many good options to eat inside the park. Outside also you will have to travel far and not many options there also.
run by state govt. the place is a total neglect. Situated off the track; no option to eat; no cleanliness; poorly maintained animals. Visit the place only if you are just passing from nearby highway. TIP- you must have your food and drinks with you.
seen so many but this was maintained well.lot of animal from cat family. must see once if in Chandigarh.
We visited this park on a very short time as had to catch our flight to Mumbai.Overall a new experience to see Tigers, Lions, Hippo etc in open and not in closed cage, seems to be well managed, due to shortage of time, we missed a lot, hopefully next time we would devote at-least half a day for this park.
