We stopped in the store while in Granada. I am so glad we did! Jennifer and everyone were so accomodating and showed us the entire process. We brought some cigars back to enjoy. Highly recommended!!

I wholesale cigars in the USA & I think a great cigar is one of life's small pleasures - Dona Elba Cigars are truly a treasure.. I always purchase 20 - 40 robusto sticks when I arrive so I can enjoy these wonderful cigars during my Nicaragua stay & for awhile back home. I smoked one per day for 30 sunny, beautiful days while in Nicaragua during January 2014 - then I arose long before daylight back home so I could enjoy a Dona Elba Cigar with my Nica coffee without interruption. One puff and I was back sitting on the energetic Calle in Granada bathed in sunlight.No kidding these sticks really do compare to the finer Cuban cigars - and, they are half the price. No, they don't have anything that tastes like Cuba's Cohiba blends - but then, they don't have any $30.00 - 50.00 cigars either - I couldn't afford them if they did!!I must add that Dona Elba opened their shop for Lorie and I during their lunch hour. We were leaving Granada and I needed twenty more sticks so they graciously unlocked the doors and sold me some more wonderful cigars to take back home. Thanks guys - I will always return for more of your great product.

When in Granada this is a must see. The factory is in a house on Xalteva Street just across from the street. I had seen a sign going into Granada and did some investigation. The founder, whose picture is on the sign, passed away a few years ago but his family has kept this company going and indeed thriving. I stopped in for a few sticks and got an impromptu lesson in cigar rolling, tobacco growing and even flavoring. The flavoring part was in a large wooden box where bundles were placed inside along with a small container or nice rum. I guess the rum vapor is absorbed by the tobacco because though not overwhelming, it is noticeable. Great hosts and a great cultural experience in tobacco without having to go to Esteli. There is a coffee shop a few doors down. Ask Andres if you can smoke by the window and enjoy a great smoke.

Stopped by after a humid and rainy Granada afternoon. We were welcomed and shown the house and in where they make their cigars. The man told us the family history and had his rollers make us cigars and a vanilla blend for the ladies.we were offered tonias beer while we smoked and posed pictures with the parrot. Took a box home.it was a great tour and their hospitality was genuine. Thank you Dona Elba cigars for making our stay in Granada that much better.

You have to know a little Spanish ib order to get the full output of this place, as they do not speak any English. My GF and I got a great insight in how they make cigars and was given the cigar that they rolled in front of our eyes for 1$. We bought 10 additional cigars for 30$. They are great!

This is one of those unique experiences you need to add to your list while in Granada. We went in the low season so didn't get the complete experience, but still loved it. Apparently they usually have someone who speaks English but we missed them, even so the guy that walked us around and took us through the cigar rolling process was amazing (he spoke slowly and in pretty basic words, so we were able to keep up with him as he went). He rolled me a complimentary cigar while going through the process, then sat with us in rocking chairs while answering our questions about the place and even brought out the parrot so we could take a picture with it. If you go, I recommend buying a box of cigars as you leave (they're ~$25 and make for great souvenirs) and leaving a nice tip.

Good cigars and a great place to visit. Staff is excellent. Owner was very friendly and went out of her way to help us. Highly recommend.

As someone who really appreciates cigars, this was something that I was really looking forward to. When we got there on Sunday morning, they were not open for business but they were nice enough to let our group in for a quick tour. Unfortunately none of the workers were there that morning, except for one. I can't remember the name of the gentleman who showed us around, but he said he had been working in cigar factories for over 15 years. He showed me various tobaccos that are used for both filler and wrappers. He asked me which type I wanted for a cigar, and then showed me how to roll and cut the tobacco... it was pretty cool to get a custom made cigar with exactly what I wanted in it! I gave him a few bucks as a thank you, and bought some cigars to take home. If you like cigars, this definitely worth your time.

Went through Granada April 2013 with our three kids aged 6 - 11. The kids were instructed in the fine art of cigar rolling, so we benefitted from the fruits of their labour (usually the other way round). Unusual, but fascinating experience.

I didn't get offered to roll my own cigar, but they did roll me a free sample and the cigar roller joined me to chat for half an hour while I enjoyed it. It was really nice getting to hear about the cigar roller's experience and life back in Esteli.

Visiting Doña Elba Cigars topped my "must see/do" list for Granada, but it is something I could've completely skipped. I should've just bought cheap cigars from a kiosk on the plaza, but other TA reviews and my LP guidebook raved about the experience and quality. First, I didn't see any signage from the street and only knew I was close because I smelled tobacco. After peering through/knocking on the wrought iron gate, someone finally came over to open the door. (It was during normal business hours FYI). Second, the staff didn't explain anything about the differences in the cigars or their origin. Third, and most disappointing, no one offered to teach me how to roll a cigar despite me taking pictures of the process. That was the reason I wanted to go...I thought it would be a fun, learning experience. The only good part of coming here was that the owners let me hold their pet parrot. If you decide to visit, don't get your hopes up for a personal experience--just buy your cigars and head back to the square.

I purchased several cigars for my father and boyfriend. Awesome souvenirs and a great experience. Very wonderful staff

It was an easy 10 minute walk west of the central square with lots to look at along the way. We passed 2 old churches, La Merced and Xalteva, and just passed the latter we found Doña Elba cigars. We were greeted at the door and asked if we spoke English or Spanish and then we were told that even though it was a Sunday, there was a guy there who would show us how cigars were made. We were the only ones in the shop and had a good one-on-one with a cigar roller and a translator. The man rolled a cigar in front of us while the other gave us the play by play in English. After he had finished rolling, he asked all 3 of us what kind of cigar we liked and rolled one for each of us with a different combination of leaves. We were blown away but there was more! He then asked if we wanted to roll our own. Keep in mind we hadn't paid any money nor were we asked to pay. I rolled a cigar, pressed it and he finished it properly and gave it to me with a plastic sleeve to keep it for later. We smoked our cigars in rocking chairs in their open air salon. Best part of our stay in Granada. We left a good tip and bought a box of cigars for US$25.

I went here with a couple of friends to buy presents for friends and family.It was amazing watching them make the cigars, and we got to try the different types. The building is beautiful and I really enjoyed my trip and would recommend people to pop in - even if you dont like cigars.

Dona Elba Cigar Factory was a very interesting experience. We were given a private tour by Sylvio Martinez, who explained the entire cigar making process from growing the tobacco to packaging. He was incredibly knowledgeable and answered our many questions thoroughly. We even got a free cigar to try. It's such an interesting experience, I would recommend it to any traveler coming through Granada. The cigars also make great gifts to take home.
