This is hidden away just outside the old city. Beautiful temple, along side are bright white mausoleums of the thai royals, the effect is breathtaking.Well worth a visit.

I think this is one of the best temples Isaw near Chiangmai area. It is true that it is easy to get used to stare at the different architectural and artistical charateristichs you will find in this area (and generally speaking in Thai), but maybe specifically for this reason I found out that sometime you can discover more beauty in little unexpected spot rather than into biggest and well known facilities. Ok, maybe I gave too "professor-like" comment here, but it was just to share my personal like for this Wat specifically. For the colors, the white portion of it, with the landscape of the golden dome near by....I felt really good. And this is the best way to analyze when someone asks you: Did you like it?

This temple is on the western side of the old town and we visited it on the way back from the mountains. What impressed us is the Chedi and the white mausoleums around it. The Pagoda itself is quite new and didn't get us.

Well worth a visit. One of the nicest I have ever seen. And very very large. Not on the main guidebook trail and yet one of those most worth the visit.

I really enjoyed walking around inside and outside of this temple. A lot of golden artifacts but it is the atmosphere that I enjoyed so much.

It never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I've seen all the variations on the Temple theme I catch another out of the corner of my eye. This on has a tremendous temple. I mean gigantic! Out of scale large! It has some very old arches around back. That's how I found it. I saw this extremely old arch cruising a back road. I went through and was blown away by the tremendous white graveyard stone works. Upon inspection I see it's right on the road to Doi Suthep. I swear you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a temple around here!

Stunning white Chedi with background of Doi Suthep. Really beautiful on a bright sunny day, with lots of history & story of previous royal family of Chiang Mai.

After being sort of templed out, i really liked Suan Dok. It was mellow, with a small amount of tourits and a nice short trip out of Chang Mai.

You can view the main temples in central Chiang Mai within a day by renting a tuktuk. Just remember to bargain with the price. I paid 500 baht for seeing five temples. I'm confident you can totally get one for less, I just knew I'd be spending time at each and having the driver take pictures for me too because I came solo. This temple is definitely worth a stop on your trip. It wasn't even that crowded in the hours just before the noon so it was fairly peaceful. At night 5-7 they have "Monk Chat" sessions where you can speak with Monks to help them practice their English, if you're into informal conversations with a monk. Go for it.
